I have three cats a female and her 2 seven month old kittens, she was a good mum to them but now she only has time for the female one. She will lick and play with her but when the boy kitten comes along the mum growls at him and now the female kitten is doing the same. He is distancing himelf from them and tries occasionally to get close to them but they just growl so he is spending more time away from them which is making him unhappy ! I want them all to get along together but not sure how to - any help welcome !

What your three cats are exhibiting is merely instinctual and hormonal.
You don't mention if you are a professional cat breeder or not. I am going to take a chance here and assume not. It is a good idea, especially if you want the three of them to be closer, to have the three of them spayed/neutered. Probably a good idea at least to have your male kitten neutered first if you can't pay for all three at the same time.
The mother cat has sensed that her male offspring is maturing, and instinct (as surprising as this may seem) is to NOT mate with your offspring. Same thing with siblings.
Also, multiple cat homes do have a hierarchy. You will have to have one cat that is your "number one" kitty. The other two will be her or his friends, but you will have to be careful about the attention you give the number two and number three kitties.
Just so you make it clear to your main kitty she/he is number one, the three of them will get along great.

put them in the same room together, but you can't be there. They get better along with each other if they know you're not in the room. They just probably smell a boy cat and mothers get very protective with their territory but I never really heard them growling at their own baby

That's odd for the mum to not like her child anymore if she once did. Just give them time. Another thing is put him and his sister in another room and kind of force them to be friends. Thay will eventually be friends.

I read that if you feed them at the same time and let them see each other when they are eating together they will get a long in the long run.

It will just happen....just give it at least three weeks, please as it will just happen and all of the cats will be friends. Cats just LOVE their terrortory and do not want to allow another in their home It is what is all about.
