Do girls prefer hair neatly in place or messy and tousled?

it completely depends on the mood of a woman. In the bed, iron-straight hair doesn't look good... that's the place to have messy hair. in the malls, gals go for the styles that r unique, maybe straight. and during work, they like hair to be neatly handled.

but hey... never try to guess a woman's mood... :)

I think that on a regular basis, neatly in place is best, but messy and tousled (as long as it looks and feels clean) is great once in a while (some guys just seem to pull that look off better than others).

Neatly in place. Unless working out, it's inevitable to get it messy. But hey, in workout gear, messy is cute

Messy hair is laid-back and makes guys more approachable, but it's not appropriate for everywhere. Common sense says you might want to clean up if you're going somewhere nice. Hope that helps!

I like messy hair, unless the guy makes his hair messy on purpose. That's just lame.

everyone is going to say everygirl is different and that is true but if you have short hair and want the messy look gel it, so it shows your doing it on purpose and your not lazy. If your hair is long and you want it messy its just going to look that-messy.

personally it depends on the mood. usually i go for the neat and in place look. but once in a while i'll be a "rebel" and go for cute messy. it really depends on the personality of the woman.
