Vote for a president who cares (I guess I am assuming you live in the U.S.). Otherwise, recycle, use energy efficient appliances, and IMHO most importantly spread the word and apply pressure with your own voice in politics. Also, very importantly, buy a hybrid vehicle or even electric if one becomes available. That makes a statement that we don't want to be so addicted to oil.
Oh yea, I do agree with albatros below me. We need to find a way to get the population growth under control because the world will become unsustainable in just a handful of generations with the current population growth rate. More population = more pollution, but other resources are strained as well.

Global warming is caused by the sun. There's nothing you can do about it.
Some people think it's due to CO2, but there's no proof yet, just a lot of theories.
If CO2 is the problem, just be glad that our current US president has done a great job of lowering emissions in the US.
The statistics are in on CO2 emissions in the US and EU-15:
1990-1995 US 6.4% EU-15 -2.2%
1995-2000 US 10.1% EU-15 2.2%
2000-2004 US 2.1% EU-15 4.5%
So in the last 4 years, the US has lessened the amounts of carbon emissions considerably, while in Europe it has more than doubled.
These statistics show that the US is doing a great job, especially since 2000. It was the worse between 1995 and 2000.
So don't worry, your country is already handling it if you're from the US. If you're from Europe you need to get those guys on the ball.
Again, if global warming is your concern, there's no real proof that carbon emissions cause it, so quit worrying.

The best thing we all can do on this planet is have only one child per couple in order to reduce the population of the planet thereby reducing the human impact. If you want more children there are millions in need of adoption.

Most importantly - Be skeptical, don't just believe what people say , including me, find out for yourself.
While there are some great books that explain what's going on - if it sounds fishy it probably is.
Ask questions - keep asking great questions like this.
As far as specific lifestyle steps
1. If you want to drive - get a hybrid - it's just not that big a deal anymore.
2. Green Living - Move to the nearest mid-sized city and become an urban person - they are much eco-friendlier because they don't drive around alot and generate less CO2.
3. Get Married! - Who knew - basically two people living together use less stuff than two single people.
Australia's Gov't figured out that they were going to run out of water / have to build desalination plants sooner in Sydney and Brisbane faster than they thought
because less people are getting married and staying single. (I couldn't find the article again but read it a couple of weeks ago.)
4. Buy efficient appliances
5. Support tree farms or reforestation efforts in the Southern US/South America and Africa.
Basically those things are about it - If everyone did that we could do a lot less harm to the planet until our politicians grow spines and or get clues at some point.

The best thing you can do is use as little electricity and gas as possible. The cause of global warming is green house gases from the burning of fuel and coal. The problem is that most of our electricity comes from burning coal or natural gas, which produces massive amounts of carbon dioxide. Buy energy star appliances and maybe even think about getting a solar panel to help power your house. I know it sounds crazy but there are actually alot of companies now that will install personal solar panels and wind generators on your house. It may be expensive, but they say that you make the money back in electricity savings within about 10 years. Plus there are actually laws saying that if you produce an excess of electricity that the power company must buy the electricity from you for the same price you pay for their electricity.

People have a lot of questions and different answers about the cause of global warming..But what people don't know is that recycling also causes damage to the atmosphere that causes wholes in the atmospheres and more sun rays(unwanted and harmful)rays come in and more heat comes in contact with earth..And when you recycle you cause pollution in the air. So you could find more info in the web about the right way to help..

Your best bet is to understand that human induced global warming is largely a fraud. You can't do anything about it. It is pushed by politicians looking to exploit fears and scientists looking for grants. It is based on shaky science and pure emotion. Do your part by ignoring the chicken littles and be happy and live your life and don't vote for those who seek to gain by scare mongering.

If you want do do your part for global warming, buy a large SUV, turn your theromstat to 80F in the winter and 45 F in the summer, and open your doors and windows.
Or... do you want to combat it?
