my brother got the car 2 years ago when he was 16 now he is a18.. i know its fast, beats all the tuners in town( honda civics, acura integras, even beat a 2007 mustang cobra i believe suppose to have 500hp) just wanted to know what the top speed on it would be since the speedomiter reads 85 but when we get to 85 the needle just hits 85 then bounces back so we're not sure how fast it could go.. also would like to know the horsepower and torque if someone knows for that engine.. its a 351 cleveland Motified i believe. Thanks for all your help in advance

The 351 m or modified is a 400 with a shortened stroke.Ford didn't actually have real Cleavland's in 79.If you have a factory tuned engine in it the 351 m in 79 was about 180hp and around 230lbs torque at approximately 3500rpm,with a 2brl carb. The biggest commen mistake people make when it comes to engines is they only think horsepower,it's the torque that gets you moving.Although you have a bigger car than the mustang it's possible it may be under torqued and can't get moving fast enough to outrun you.About the top speed on the t-bird,it's between 115-130.Thats on a perfect straight line.

In 79 Ford had the 351M, if you have a Cleveland, its not factory. The engine though will probably go to 120 or a little more. Though the engine might be 400. If the serial/vin no. of the car has an S in it its a 400, has a H, its a 351M.

Probobly about 110 because that car cant hold the road. It dosent matter how much power you have if you cant stay on the road. I know my brother had a 1983 firebird that we got up to 120 and it got to squirly so he had to back off.

i'm sure it is a fast 79 T-Bird. but if it doesn't have a built motor I gotta question your bragging, that's a pretty heavy car.Take it to the track
