Ok very very nasty subject but I need some advice. Both of my big toe nails and both little toe nails are infected. Honestly I have failed to do anything about them for a very long time..... I always painted them but it's gotten so bad that I barely have any nails left after cutting out the bad parts. This is gross. I know I cannot take any oral meds to fix it but I need something just as effective. I saw something about vicks vapor rub being a great home remedy.. true? Any help would be appreciated. I am 7 months and due beginning of April so I want my tootsies looking fresh for summer sandals. ( I have really pretty feet outside of this yucky mess!) :-(

Best and easiest and safest method of getting rid of nail fungus is VICKS VAPORUB. Just need to rub it on your toenails at night and if you wish cover with a sock to keep your bedding clean..somehow it must smother the fungus or something... It is totally harmless, although it has its own smell shortly after you begin treatment. When the nail starts to grow out you will have healthy nail again. Lots of the medical treatments can be dangerous to your liver and you will need your liver enzymes tested from time to time... so try the VICKS. It has been suggested that the menthol, camphor, eucalyptus in Vicks could be what inhibits or kills the fungi.

Michigan State university actually did a study on this and clinicians found that applying the product daily to the infected nail cleared the condition in 32 of 85 patients, though it took anywhere from 5 to 16 months. While the study had notable weaknesses, it nevertheless suggests that VapoRub's efficacy may at least rival that of more costly, prescription topical medication. Oral antifungal drugs are more effective, but they can cause serious side effects.

I am getting over toe fungus.
Have been going to a podiatrist for about a year. Every three months I go in to have my toenails clipped. The nails have been cleaned of all the debis that is a good hideout for the fungus.
She also suggested that I put Oil of Oregano on my toenails. Got the oil in a Health Food Store. Cost about $22.
However a catalog put out by Puritan Pride Supplement had a sale at one point. Item was listed for about $12.00.
A combination of both treatments has resulted in some great looking toe nails. Not sure about vicks vapor rub. Good luck

If you do indeed have a toenail fungus, you better have plenty of polish ready for sandal season. Those things can take up to 2 years to get rid of. They do make a brush on antifungal liquid (or tincture) you can ask your doctor about. Its called clotrimazole. You brush it on twice to three times a day just like nail polish. And I will warn you, this stuff stinks! It will take what seems like forever to see any results but if you stick with it, they will come. Make sure you do ask your doctor about using this stuff because of the pregnancy.

Also, when you get out of the shower or bath, make sure you dry not only your toes, but inbetween them completely. This will help keep you from getting any other kinds of fungus, like athletes foot.

Wear cotton socks that wick the moisture away from your feet. Fungi love warm moist dark places!

And don't forget to let your tootsies breath every now and then. Walk around the house barefoot or in flipflops for a couple of hours a day. This will help.

Until you are diagnosed by a doctor, try not to put lotion between your toes, this holds moisture in and does not help the situation. You can put it on the rest of the foot, though.

I got my Toenail fungus when Victoria, my Vulture, did my Pedicure with her beak .....She said it was the personal touch that matters! Now she has to come over 3 times a week to "Share" saliva with me as I try to build up my antibodies. I think she's trying to edge Eleanor out of the picture.

I'm sure that you have seen the commercials on T.V for a
product that you apply directly to your toes.
Ask you Dr. or Pharmacist
