I just received this new addition about three weeks ago and when she goes to her potty box she doesn't cover it AND her poo really stinks! Is this due to a different dry kitten food or should I try something different? She also passes ALOT of gas!?! You can smell her poo from a good distance! Any suggestions WITHOUT alot of costs??? Husband threating to send her back!(LOL)

Try to get a dry food she likes (I usually go with Friskies Ocean Fish). And try to stay consistent with it. Don't continually switch her food around, it causes bad indigestion.
You might also try a quarter can of soft food once a day, but stay away from the fishy ones, as it makes the kitties stinkier.
I don't know why the dry food doesn't have the same effect, it just doesn't.

As for the litter box, you have to train her. When you notice her going in her box, when she's done - use her paw to cover it, then give her a treat. She will learn to cover it, it'll take a little bit though.

She might also be a little stressed out (the gas). Try if you can to reduce the noise in her area, and treat her calmly most of the time. Cats are very sensitive to stressed out people.

Hope it works out for the best!!

You kind of need to go in there when she goes potty and take her paw and help her bury it. Be her mommy. Passing gas is very normal for kittens. but canned food might be what makes her stools stink. Only feed her canned a little bit once a day. Have dry food available so she doesn't go hungry. Kitten food only until she is 1 year old. Meow mix isn't very good for them it's like Fast food for humans. Try Iams or 9 lives. Fish is bad for cats try chiken and gravy. Most cats love that.

What are you currently feeding her? Just wondering, because fishy canned food and/or milk can cause gas & really stinky poo. Any dry food for kittens should be fine, she can also have canned food. I would like to recommend giving her distilled (not tap or filtered) water. It won't help with the smell, but it could prevent urinary tract problems in the future. I worry a lot about that because before I began using only distilled water I lost 2 cats to cyctitis. You might also try a different brand of litter, that may encourage her to cover it. Another alternative (but an expensive one!) it to get a "LitterMaid" cat box (about $100). They clean themselves and do pretty good job of it. Good luck with your baby.

I would suggest Purina One or science diet. They may cost more but in the long run it is better for your cats health.Your cat may like it better and it doesn't make it stink as much I think.
My cat of 6 years got a urinary blockage from the cheap food, it was crystallizing in his tract had to have an expensive procedure to save his life.

really stinky poo and gas could mean intestinal parasites too.
take a sample to your vet and have it checked.
if it is positive they can give you a dewormer to treat the parasites.
