I have a judgment against a tenant I had to evict in Orange County, California in 2000 of around $1000. He has not paid a dime. How can I go about collecting on the amont? My understanding is that there is a 10 year statute of limitations on the judgment.

Did you record the Judgment?.....That's the first step....take the original Judgment to your County Recorder's office....make sure the tenant's social security number & DOB is on the Judgment.....then you can garnish their bank acct or paycheck.....time consuming but worth it.....also....if they try to get a loan for anything....your judgment will appear on their credit report and they will have to pay it off if they ever want to finance anything in the future.

Since you have a judgment you can file a garnishment if you know where the ex-tenant works. I sure hope you know where they work because skip-tracing someone for $1000 isn't hardly worth it. You may be able to sell the judgment to a collector for about $50.

doubtful you can collect any judgment.
you receive the award in court but court does not collect it...
