We had 2 siamese cats and when one of them died, the other one (Perry) became very quiet and did not seem to be interested in anything so we decided to get him a little friend. We got Lilo, another siamese to keep him company. She thought he was just great and went to him right away, unfortunetaly, he was not quite ready to accept a newcomer. It took a few days and now, they are the best of friends. Perry has now become the lively cat he used to be before his brother died and as he is an older cat (12 years old at the time) we decided to get a third cat so that when we lost Perry eventually, Lilo would not be going through what Perry did. It has now been 3 years and all three of them are doing great. The newest one had the hardest time fitting in, but she eventually did. It took Tia about 3 weeks to feel like she was part of the group. So don't give up if you get a second kitten, it may take a while before they are friends. I am writing this and on the couch beside me are all 3 cats curled up together and sleeping. They never seem to get bored and keep each other company.

It would be best to adopt another kitten (and it would be great if the other kitten was either a brother or sister to your kitten).

Felines are much more capable of taking care of themselves when they are alone. Just keep a fresh bowl of water and some food out in their dish and keep a liter box for them to use.

If you got a dog/puppy, you would need to house break the dog/puppy and then have to come home to feed and walk the dog/puppy.

CONGRATULATIONS on your adoption for the kitties.

Have a lovely rest of the evening.

I'd probably go with two kittens. We've always been a singleton cat family and while it's okay, my mom's been a two cat family and she thinks the cats are happiest that way. Based on our visits with her, I think I tend to agree.

Our second pet is actually a guinea pig. That's a good option too. The guinea pig is "interesting" entertainment for the cat. Guinea pigs are easy to care for too.

Still I think I'd probably go two kitties.

It is always to adopt cats in pairs!! I used to keep my horse on the property of an animal rescue and they only adopt cats out in pairs unless the new cat is going to be a companion for a cat that you already have.
