Lutheran's are Christian, therefore, we believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior & that Jesus Christ and God are one in the same. We believe that all people are/will be saved whether they are Baptized Christians, practicing Christians or those who don't believe at all. We believe in the Apostles Creed, The Lord's Prayer, The Ten Commandments & Communion, and, for some reason, everyone always sits in the same exact spot every week at worship.
The biggest thing about Lutheran's is that we believe there is a direct line, or close personal relationship with Jesus, unlike Catholics who believe they have to go through Mary first. Hence, Hail Mary's. The head's of Lutheran churches are called Pastors, not Priests.
But, every Lutheran church and Pastor is different, as are the particular sects, such as Evangelical, ELCA or Missouri Synod.
Lutheran is under the Protestant heading, there is plenty on the web about it, but, to get a better idea or understanding you might want to inquire at a particular church you want to attend, or just cold call a Pastor and ask.

I am a Lutheran.
Being a Lutheran means to trust whole heartily in the inerrant of the Holy Bible, Old and New Testament. The Birth of the Lutheran Church was in the Fifteen hundreds by the followers of Martin Luther. He didn't start the Lutheran Church himself, he wanted to point out what he saw as errors in the Catholic Church and the Papacy. There was never an intention to start another religion. Lutheranism is the study of the Bible in its entirety. We check all information with the Bible, if the scriptures don't speak of it we question it. The ninety-fife theses were things that Luther was unable to verify within the Bible. They included the sale of indulgences, the infallibility of the Pope, and the existence of purgatory, among many other things. They were a call to the Catholic Church for open debate. He wasn't calling them liars, he was asking them to defend their beliefs. Many Lutherans still to day won't back down from an oped debate of our faith. I happen to be one of these people. If you want to know more I am always willing to discuss faith and my beliefs with anyone who wants to know. I think intelligent conversation on faith helps both people learn more.

Luther began Catholic. no longer precisely by potential of selection. He have been given caught in a lightening typhoon and promised God he might exchange right into a clergyman if God spared him. He'd continuously been flighty and neurotic. The church mandatory reform while Luther got here around. Luther might have been a competent reformer, different than he stopped being righteous and grew to alter into self-righteous. He released a time of terrible tribulation for Catholics and Jews. it is asserted that Hitler have been given his innovations from Luther. Luther pronounced guy can't escape his sinful nature. So we ought to continuously basically include it and be sinners. while our day of judgement comes we ought to continuously throw ourselves on God's mercy. Luther additionally had a especially unfastened hand at modifying the bible. He wrote in what he cherished and took out what he did no longer. case in point "faith on my own" - on my own exchange into extra by potential of Luther to justify his very own very own teachings. expensive PSF: people do no longer look issues up on Wikipedia because of the fact all and sundry can write that stuff. maximum of it is bogus. expensive Pooh Cat: Catholics do no longer think of the pope is divine. no longer in any way shape or type. he's basically the chief of our church.

one thing for sure it means that if you are a RC then you are doing something many priests teach is wrong. Martin Luther the early chuch leader revealed some things about the RC church they did not like and many followed his teachings one of which was to read your Bible which is something the RC church did not encourage at that time and perhaps even still in some places. Even their masses were in Latin.

It means that you believe in Christianity and take Jesus as your Savior. Others may go to a baptist, catholic, or any other church and still be considered Christians. This is a Hindu point of view of course.

It means you followed a guy with mental problems OUT of the Church established by Christ.
"A 16th-century Augustinian monk named Luder for some reason left a very detailed diary. This is a man who grew up with an extremely brutal father, had a very anxious relationship with him, was very psychosomatic-illness-oriented. One day he was out walking in the field. There was a thunderstorm, and he got a panic attack, and vowed, 'If I'm allowed to survive this, I will become a monk and devote the rest of my life to God.' He survives, becomes a monk, and throws himself into this ritualism with a frenzy. This was an order of monks that was silent 20-some hours a day. Nonetheless, he had four hours worth of confessions to make every day: 'I didn't say this prayer as devoutly as I should have. My mind wandered when I was doing this, doing that.' The first time he ran a mass, he had to do it over and over because he got the details wrong. He would drive his Father Superior crazy with his hours and hours of confession every day: 'God is going to be angry at me for doing this, because I said this, and I didn't think this much, and I didn't do this the right way, and I . . .' until the Father Superior got exasperated with him and came up with a statement that is shockingly modern in its insight. He said, 'The problem isn't that God is angry with you. The problem is that you're angry with God.' The most telling detail about this monk was, he washed and washed and washed. As he put it in his diary: 'The more you wash, the dirtier you get.' Classic OCD. The reason why we know about this man Luder is because we know him by the Anglicized version of his name: Martin Luther." -- Robert Sapolsky, a professor of neurology at Stanford University

Depends entirely on WHAT KIND of Lutheran. Like all modern denominations, there are very liberal (ELCA) Lutherans, middle-of-the-road Lutherans (LCMS) and very conservative Lutherans (WELS)...
