Birthdays are depressing for some, in my opinion, because the event is a reminder of years gone by. Those who become depressed subconsciously know that childhood cannot be revisited, and the happy times, the mistakes, the departed relatives, and being the center of the adult world is a mere memory.

I remember the times throughout my childhood, listening to my elders constantly carp about their birthdays, and I never understood why they felt the way the did. However, I do know now. Some things only time can fully explain. We simply have to accept life as it is given to us, the good and not-so-good parts, eat our cake, blow out the candles, and cherish the years that pass ever so quickly like the sun setting in the western skyline of our lives.

I once read (and I can't forget no matter how hard I try) that each day of your life is less and less of a percentage of your life as a whole - for example, when you are one day old a day is 100% of your life, when you are 10 days old, a day is only 10%, 100 days only 1% of your life and so on. This is the reason that time speeds up as we get older. I don't know why, but this is sooooo depressing!!! I find that the older I get, the more things I want to do and the less time there is to do it in?
Thank goodness for chocolate, it makes everything better ;-)

Mine's on Jan 1st. Hangover is the usual reason for the depression.
However this year I'll be celebrating 20 years of being 21, Grey hair, being scammed out of £2k by a dodgy commercial finance company, too many bloody family hanging around after crimbo and struggling to find money to pay the mortgage.

Depression is usually as a result of realising you're never going to do all the things you'd planned to do when you were 20 now you're too old and the fact that I'm now closer to death than birth.

Oh God why did you start me on this. I want to cry already!

Birthdays are only depressing from 22 on. And it is because we are getting older, and in this society youth is so treasured. But don't worry, with age comes wisdom.

Also, maybe because you remember getting so excited on your birthday when you were younger. You got to have birthday parties, and get ALL kinds of gifts. Most adults don't have birthday parties, and rarely get gifts, and even if they do it is something like a blender. Maybe that is why?

As I've got older, the more my Birthday is just another day. Thing is, people make so much of birthdays that its always an anti-climax really. Just look on it as the same sort of day as any other - then you wont feel so bad - honestly try it xxxxxxx

Birthdays aren't suppose to be depressing, they are suppose to be fun. Try celebrating by treating yourself to something new that you wouldn't ordinarily buy or do. Celebrate the day you were born for it was a great day!!! Happy Birthday!
