way back when, when dishwashers were new, you used to be able to hook them up to the sink to run them (portable dishwasher). most people have dishwasher hookups now, so they might not sell that style now. call some appliance stores and ask about portable dishwashers that don't need that hook up, maybe they can special order one. or you may just have to call the plumber and get some hookups installed

here is some info on the permanent type (that you need a hookup for) and a portable one

Dishwashers can be installed in either a portable or a permanent configuration. Portable units have finished sides and top that can be used as a countertop. When not in use, the machine sits in place next to the wall. When it's time to run a cycle, the unit can be rolled on casters over to the sink, where it connects to the faucet and plugs into a nearby outlet. In a permanent installation, the dishwasher goes underneath the existing countertop and bolts into place. Hoses underneath the kitchen sink connect directly to the hot water line and the drain line, and the unit usually plugs in under the sink as well. Both types of installation require a 120-volt grounded line.

I have a dishwasher that is not connected to my water line. When I'm ready to use it, I push it to the sink. The dishwasher water line temporarily connects to the sink faucet and drains down the sink. The electric connects to a power strip made for appliances. When the dishes are done washing, I disconnect the water and push it back to its corner while the electric is still connected and the dishes continue to dry. Its surprisingly easy to push; my dog pushes it when she's acting hyper and jumping and playing in the kitchen.

You have to buy a dishwasher made to operate independently (without being installed under sink). They cost a little more too and they're not as easy to find because they don't make as many models.. Mine has a butcher block top and is convertible if I ever want to permanently install it. Its a Maytag. Good luck and make sure you shop around.

They do make portable ones that hook right up to the faucet. There are special connections ,if you don't have any you'll either have to put them in, or get someone to. I hooked ours up, it wasn't hard, but we already had the connections there. You have to have a water supply to the washer, also a drain. The drain runs to the disposal, and the water is tapped over from the shut-off valve. Do you see a way that can be done? You can replace the shut off valve easily and the drain to the disposal is easy. You can do it if you like doing that kind of stuff,I do.

Hi there, Your best bet is to talk to the salesman and tell them what you need. They are there to help you as well as sell to you, and if they aren't helpful find another one. You can buy free-standing or stand-alone dishwashers that don't go in to your cupboard space all that is needed is a water supply hook up and somewhere for the water outlet to drain to. If you wanted/needed to you could even run it from your laundry or bathroom. Also, you are better off with a basic model, avoid fancy gadgetry or buttons that look pretty as these models tend to be more expensive to fix. Hope this is helpful to you, cheers.

we lived in an old house that was built before there were dishwashers and there wasn't anywhere to install one without remodeling the whole kitchen. we had a portabe one that had a hose that would just hook up to the sink, we even had a butcher block installed on top of it
