I love how you base your opinion on no knowledge of the Bible at all. If you are going to say that the Bible is false, make sure you at least read through the whole thing before saying it is false. If you don't, your opinion won't be accepted. At least by myself.
What came into my mind when I read the question:
OH! THE BIBLE IS FALSE BECAUSE SOMEONE TOLD ME IT WAS AND I CAN'T TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT MYSELF BEFORE I MAKE AN OPINION ABOUT IT. LET ME JUST BASE MY OPINION OFF OF NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE BIBLE. HA! TAKE THAT YOU CHRISTIANS! WHAT NOW???
Anyway,
The Bible was God inspired, and God breathed into the men who wrote the Bible. They didn't just make up stuff on a page. God told them what to write. The men who wrote it where vessels of God's words.

Second Comment: For Revised Part of Question:
The question you still have posted is why should we take it so literally?
Your basically saying its false. When you don't take something literally, you don't believe it. Same thing. Stop trying to step around things. You can't say that you believe in something, but don't take it serious or literally.
And don't revise your post saying that you take the Bible serious or literally, because then, your question becomes pointless. It almost already is.
And for the other point, the Bible has never been changed. Just because the words go from "thou" to "you", does not mean it has changed the meaning. I don't see how the Bible has been changed over the years? Where do you have proof? Besides what you've "heard".

Because, they supposedly contain all the truths of life, and a possible life hereafter. They claim to know something of life and death, a god or gods, prophets, sin, forgiveness, how to get along with others, history, lessons, proverbs, advice. As far as what "all people should do", regarding religion, we each can only choose for ourselves. I choose to believe in God, and a bible, but create no "conflict" from it, or destruction that you mention. Be careful also, what groups you lump together. A brutal, destructive group, cannot and should not be lumped with a peaceful group. It makes no sense, and would invalidate what you had to say about it. Those are just my thoughts and advice on that. People like you, are probably doing a good thing, in that you are asking people why take it so literally. For instance, there is a holy book that says, "kill all the infidels", and that means all that are not in their belief system. People in that group should see a problem with this, and face the hard fact, they may be believing and living and dying for something totally whacked, and off base. What a waste of a life, no? Never mind the blood that would be on their hands. We all should ask why we believe, what we believe, even when it feels scary or threatening. Life is just too short.
Update, since the questioner last posted, if you are curious about our current bible, being correct, you may be interested in reading or looking into a interlinear bible. You can see for yourself how from THE original manuscripts, and languages, it was made into our own. It is not so different as you mention. Its fascinating!

A man with eight PhDs - he was proud of his achievement - met a monk. The monk asked him, "Why have you been so foolish in life?" The man said: "But I have eight PhDs!"
"I have understood you; it is foolish to spend the best part of life reading instead of enjoying the birds, stars and the moon", said the monk.
"You may have knowledge but not clarity; you may know a lot and yet understand nothing".
What does one have to understand about life?
You have many centres: Intellectual centre, an emotional centre and a body centre. In each centre, there is a mechanical and magnetic part. The mechanical part acts like a machine while the magnetic part acts with ore awareness.
You have to transform yourself. Your mechanical movements and thinking have to change. Your mechanical emotions like jea- lousy and hatred have to be overcome. You can do this by bringing in more awareness.
Then a complete being will emerge. When you increase awareness, even poison can turn into medicine; and with no awareness, medicine can become poison.
Why are we so mechanical?
A king dreamt that he was a beggar. His guru, in his dreams, told him the truth that he was a king and not a beggar. Now was he to argue with his guru or just wake up?
The question of "why" cannot be answered. When did time begin? You cannot answer such a question. Which came first, egg or hen? There is a logical fallacy in the very question. Realise that we are mechanical. Bring in more awareness and see the life-transformation.
Even inert objects have life. Treat any object with loving awareness and it will guide you mysteriously. Your intuition and purity have to increase to receive this message. When you bathe, lovingly talk to water.
In a relationship, is it not necessary to judge? >>
In a relationship, is it not necessary to judge?
Keep yourself relaxed. Increase your awareness and love. Not to judge should not be a conclusion. Don't make it a demand or compulsion. Let there be a choice. There is a difference between "should' and "choice'.
"Should' creates stress; it limits you to only one option. Choose not to judge. It is not a demand but a wise choice.
The danger of judgment is that you stop seeing the object of judgment and you are more in your judgment.
In life, you have to make judgments, but don't be a victim of your judgments. Suppose a thief enters your house, you have to judge him but then, be open to the possibility that he could change.
Suppose you meet him after 10 years, see if he has changed or not. Do you still judge from the memory that he has been a thief? If you do not have this awareness, you will not see the change in a person even if he has changed.
What should one be really aware of?
Negative emotions poison. Like avoiding poisonous food, avoid negative emotions. Don't identify with them. Don't participate in them. Choose to create a new will, not be driven by negative emotions.
They deplete your energy. They keep you asleep. They are harmful and heavy. They make your life complicated. For example somebody's success should not be your failure. We define our failure by somebody's success.
We feel jealous seeing someone successful. Jealousy is a great poison.
Compete with your potential. Even if you compete with others, enjoy it. See beauty all around. Do not define your success and failure by someone's success and failure.

I think it's a system of converting...
That's why we have an educational system!
Or so they say in history books...
Or it is because... when we move and roam around to explore and settle, we only bring them a religious book and nothing else!
*shrugges* But I would say that they are a form of art... I mean... we see everything as art these days. Why else would they fall under Arts & Humanities? In Arts & Humanities, we not only create and explore, we observe & question everything... and then the teacher would force us to analyze and disect every subject/topic/etc...
Teachers... *sigh* ... *eyes rolls*

They confuse the terms literature and literally.
That happens when the only thing you read is a 2000 year old piece of fiction.

examining the bible is a spiritual exercising and since the bible says the Holy Spirit will coach you and placed across know-how to you and thats what occurs to a real christian while he/she reads the bible on account which you get carry of revelation of the be conscious for the period of the holy spirit. A christian who translate the bible actually is shallow and can desire to desire to be crammed with the holy spirit to appreciate and interpret in wisely. do you recognize devil additionally reads or is familiar with relating to the be attentive to God? He does yet he does not are conscious of it because of the fact the Holy Spirit will by no potential exhibit the be attentive to God interior the bible to the devil. remember Lucifer exchange into an arch angel in the previous the autumn and grew to alter into devil so he's familiar with the be attentive to God yet does not are conscious of it.

i think they WANT the books to be true, they WANT the stories to be true, they WANT a heaven to exist, they WANT a hell to exist.
religion does something that not many (if any) other things can do. it fills psychological holes. its a crutch. and that's not meant to be insulting....its just what it is. people cling to it...they want it to be true, they want to know theres something bigger or better than what this world has to offer.
they fell in love with the idea of it.
its as simple as that.

It is not religion destroying the world, it is people.
If "we all knew" the (erroneous) information you proposed, we would all be wrong.
can the wrong get along?
Someone is right. Jesus.
