Unfortunately, you've chosen one of Carnival's oldest ships - the Holiday. She was built in 1987, making her almost 20 years old. She is also considered small by today's standards, and is, in fact, Carnival's smallest ship at 46,052 tons and carrying just under 1500 passengers. She is rated at 3 out of a possible 6 stars, and does 4 & 5 night cruises out of Mobile to Cozumel, Calica and Costa Maya - all on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

I'm not saying that you won't have a fun time, because I'm sure you will. But if you're looking for balconies or any of the other bells and whistles that you have probably seen on TV, you'll be disappointed. Sorry to bring you this news - however, if Carnival is your "line-of-choice" and you can get over to New Orleans, the Sensation (1993) 70,367 tons, does the same itinerary. I was on the Inspiration (a sister ship to the Sensation) last year with my family and really enjoyed the cruise.

My wife and I cruise 2-3 times a year - on many different cruise lines - I've got to tell you that Carnival had the best bands, the best shows, and overall, the best entertainment of any of the ships we've been on - and that's saying a lot!

By the way, you may not know that Carnival has the largest standard cabins of any cruise line - 185 sq. ft. compared to 155 - 175 on others.

Carnival delivered what it promised and we enjoyed our cruise, and I hope you do too!

Bon voyage!

I have to agree with Travelguy. I would skip the Holiday and try the Sensation. It's a wonderful ship with lots of lounges. The staterooms are quite roomy too.
