i was prescribed effexor-xr more than 2 weeks ago by my doctor without being evaluated for what might be my problem. i was on the lowest dose (37.5) and started the 75 mg dose yesterday. i really don't like medication to begin with and i don't like what this is doing to me. i have no appetite, i can't sleep, when i'm awake i feel listless, when i try to sleep, i can't stay still, i feel more depressed than ever, i can't do anything! he said that the symptoms are normal and should go away after a week or two, but they just seem to be getting worse.

i know that you can't just discontinue anti-depressants and that you have to taper off for awhile. but i was wondering that since i've only been on it for 2 weeks and on the lowest dose, would it be okay to just throw this stuff down the toilet?! i can't take it anymore!

If you've only been taking the Effexor XR for a few weeks, it is completely understandable that you are having these "beginners" side effects. Your body is adjusting to the medication and this is normal.

On the Effexor XR website, it states, "Change doesn't happen overnight. It usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to feel the full benefits of therapy. Try to be patient about the treatment process. Just as depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder do not develop overnight, it also takes time to feel better."

If you continue to take the Effexor as prescribed, a lot of the side effects you're experiencing now will most likely go away.

A few weeks is not enough time to see if the medication is helping. You should give it more time.

But if you are dead set on getting off it, TRUST ME, you will want to wean off it gradually and with the help of your doctor. The withdrawal effects of Effexor XR are some of the worst of any of the anti-depressants out there. I know this because I recently weaned off Effexor XR after taking it for nearly 6 years and the withdrawals were not fun.

Good luck!

This type of medication you do not stop cold turkey. You need to taper off just as you tapered on by using the 37.5 mg dose. You need to talk to your doctor ASAP to work out your game plan to get off it if it is not agreeing with you and to get some of those lower dose pills to do it. Antidepressants take one month to have an effect.

it somewhat is hard to end Effexor XR. i became on a lots larger dose of it. I lost my insurance and so I then lost my potential to pay for it. I knew it became coming inspite of the shown fact that so I took fewer for a whilst then much less for a whilst then I have been given to one pill. meanwhile I had all those area consequences of lowering boost and felt the worst I even have ever felt. poor issues, dizziness, all that. I ALSfO became battling 3 different issues, and battling 2 of them would desire to very actual have killed me at any time from my physique wanting them to function. Then I took the single pill approximately an hour or so later each and on a daily basis and finally one each and every few days and so on. And taking the pill became impressive as a results of fact it took away many of the worst indicators. ultimately I basically stopped taking them. It became undesirable dealing with it and it took approximately 3 months or so yet I have been given by it. it somewhat is risky inspite of the shown fact that, you're immediately affecting your recommendations chemical components so be careful. boost the time between pills. i think of you will desire to purchase gelatin pills and open the Effexor and positioned area of it in them and shrink that way too as long as you do not overwhelm the granules. i did not do it that way inspite of the shown fact that and it became perplexing to bypass by. i'd desire to ask you inspite of the shown fact that in case you think of that feeling not depressed may well be worth any quantity of money in case you pays it?

no you should never stop them without doctor aproval. the first problem is the fact that your were prescribed them without being evaluated. second anitdepressants are not just used for depression. and there are so many out there. if the sypmtoms have not gone away then he/she needs to put you on another type. i would call him-some offices have after hours phone service and can call your doctor for you. either you can handle the med or your dose isn't right. i take zoloft and love it. but there are alot out there-just ask him to try another one on you. what were your original symptoms?

NO. You can become ill from stopping this medication. Talk to your Dr if you have any concerns. Part of the process of treating depression is finding the right medication for you. But by all means...I would not just stop.

Why would you want to do this without taliking to your doctor? If you don't trust your doctor to be able to tell him that you can't take this medication anymore, you should get a new doctor.
