I think Islam is a religion. Like any religion it can be a source of comfort, peace, and stability in a person's life. Like any religion it can also be a source of hatred, violence and war.

I would have to say that asking people in here about their views on Islam is pretty much a big mistake, since surely Muslims would say the nicest things about Islam, while it is likely that certain bigoted non-Muslims would beg to differ. So, why bother about what common "unscholarly" people think? If you truly want to understand Islam but too lazy too read, kindly watch a documentary on Islam made by PBS called Islam - Empire of Faith here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyNeULY4E1I

for more information, pay a visit to recognised and well-established Muslim websites, like:

http://www.understanding-islam.com/
www.harunyahya.com

or pay a visit to recognised independent websites, i.e. United Nation Alliance of Civilisations:

www.unaoc.org

And obviously, refrain from visiting any of the countless websites dedicated to demonise and to blaspheme against Islam, by cutting and pasting certain Quranic verses about jihad without providing their accepted exegesis/interpretation for instance.

God knows best.

Peace and Love.

I like islam, although I must confess I am no expert on any religion. I was raised by a non-active Anglican father, and a mother who professes to hate God. As a child I always wanted to go to church and learn, the priests fasinated me but, really I had no religious upbringing. Later on I went to classes at the Catholic church to learn some things and I became baptized but, I have always had trouble grasping the idea of the trinity. I think I wanted to be close to God and I took what was available to me but my heart is not in the church or religion itself. I find islam very sensible and I believe many of their teaches to be convincing for me. I am not an expert on any religion but so far, I have only one conflict with islam and it weighs heavy on my mind. I don't agree with a husband having more then one wife. I am utterly and completely against it.

Islam is just a religion as any other religion. The main issue is with Islam that it is behind Christianity almost 800 years. At that time (12th century) Christianity represented the evil, tried world domination. It is the Islam's turn to be the evil and today representing the wicked and dangerous religious administration. Hopefully the Muslim masses will understand how some leaders use them and will get free from religious autocracy

Like all other religion, it segregates group of people from another thinking they are the righteous ones and that the other group is second class religion.

Islam happens to have more extremist than any other religion because I personally think they are also more supressed and of course the west is doing an awful job in the muslim world.

I think it is the religion spoken of in the Bible as the religion that many Christians will fall away to a false teaching in the last days.

i think it is a strict religion but it would teach a person modesty. i believe that everyone has a right to there own beliefs and that is fine. Islam seems like just another way of life. it is a little to controlling for me but i would accept it in other people. i have nothing wrong with it. Islam also seems like an inspiring religion because it is more than just a way to pray and believe but it is away of live.

Islam is misinterpreted;it's real message being edited over the course of middle ages.

Its a religion, which means that it's basically just a means of controlling mass numbers of people with brainwashing, but the whole "they're all terrorist pigs" thing is completely ridiculous. Most people who say that are Christians, and they should know that Islam is extremely similar if not based on their own precious religion. Basically, all religion causes violence (the crusades?), so don't blame the Muslims.

I am a kid and I decided to become Muslim a few days before my mom did....I LVE IT.I LOVE ALL my RIGHTS as a Muslim girl, and I would NEVER return to my former belief. It has made me a more caring person, and it makes me think more about what's going on around the World.I was NEVER in my life,as open minded as I am as a Muslim.

a lot of people do not understand it. their only contact with Islam is through western media, and it's a distorted view. People who actually read Quran from beginning to end are completely surprised, b/c it contradicts all the western bias that exists. Islam is perfect, but its followers are not.
