I just read a story (in my local newspaper) where the standard Fire Investigators' handbook was written based upon decades of observations by professionals. This handbook was taught to all fire investigators; the information was thought to be 100% true because it was based on decades of real experience and observation. And this was used to convict people of arson. However, the information was never subjected to scientific scrutiny. When it was, the information was shown to be FALSE, despite what people believed. Now, the book has been rewritten but some places still refuse to reconsider arson cases because they're stubbornly tied to their old beliefs.
Shouldn't all of our beliefs be held up to scrutiny?

I would have to 100% agree with you. I also think people have a hard time changing beliefs that they were raised with. When it comes to the Bible all people should make sure that what they are being taught in there church is from the Bible..

Yes, but you need to remember that some beliefs can be proven, and some cannot. If it can be proven, then facts can be established. If people refuse to see the facts, they are being irrational.

If the belief cannot be proven, like most religious beliefs, then it is opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so long as they don't infringe upon anothers' right to the same.
