my 15 year old brother had to compare two love poems over christmas break. before that they were studying love in literature, and after they're going to read romeo and juliet for the bazillionth time. nobody but english majors should have to go through this, escpecially not a bunch of 14- and 15-year old boys. how evil is that?

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say that teacher is an evil jerk. All that "love" and stuff? Sheesh!

A bazillion -- isn't that like way more than eleventy thousand? That's a lot of time spent reading Romeo & Juliet.

While I never gave homework over break when I was a teacher, it doesn't really sound like a very time-consuming assignment.

Romeo and Juliet is standard curriculum for 9th graders, so he isn't going through anything the rest of the freshman in the U.S. aren't going through.

Get over it. I read "Romeo and Juliet" before I was in hight school. The language may be hard to follow, but if you take your time with it you can figure it out!

Awww, poor baby. He might actually learn to read and write better and gain an understanding of the human condition through literature.

If it's a female teacher...
She's showing the boys the futility of relationships and giggling to herself as she reads the essays.
If it's a male teacher...
He's trying to warn the boys, keeping them from falling into the jaws of evil women, cause the good ones are few and far between.
Kudos, male teacher!

Learning about love poetry and Shakespeare will attract girls. Did you bother to tell him that or did you just increase the juvenile moaning?
