They are the same. All military branches pay the same, the benefits are the same. By the way USMC is part of the Navy, they are not their own seperate branch.

The Marines are part of the Navy. Seperate in a way but still part... thats the way it is. You are obviously giving this more thought than most inquiring about family and housing. All the services will give you basically the same...... but it's a matter of what you do, where you get stationed, etc. Whatever service you choose it is a great move if you have a family. But.....
You have to think about their and your quality of life. The Marines have a limited amount of duty stations and the base housing is legendary for being horrible.
The Army has more duty stations and will offer more choice and chances to travel and better yourself.
The Navy? Definitly choose them if it is a choice between USMC and Navy. Same thing more choices and opportunities for career enhancment.
If you are sincerely concerned about family and quality of life.... pick the Air Force. No other service equals it in money spent for families.
Specialty pay? Well you can get lots of it if you are deployed... but think of your family. Quality of life is the key and getting a job when you get out. Plus you know you can switch services if you want, the recruiter will not tell you this.

The USMC housing is nothing like it used to be. Most of the family housing has gone to privatization, meaning outside companies have taken over and run them now. Nearly all of the housing has been remodeled or are scheduled to be remodeled. All the pay and benefits are basically the same. Just depends on what job you want to do when you are in.
As far as the USMC having limited bases, it really depends on your MOS where you could be stationed. Marines have many options including all Marine bases, Navy bases, and US Embassy's all over the world.

Department of the Navy, United States Marine Corps. that is why the highest Marine General is 4 star and the Highest Navy rank is 5 star Admiral. The Marines have always been a part of and under the command of the navy. in my 4 years in the marines from 89-93 i went to 16 countries on 4 continents. no one can beat the marines for travel. marines go on ship and you get bunked four high. food on ship is good. back at base in the states, marines live in a large dorm room 2 or 3 to a room. navy stationed on a ship live on that ship navy personel not stationed on a ship usually have their own rooms. everything else pay and benefits are basically the same.

They are exactly the same. The benefits and opportunities are provided by the US Government, not the individual service.
Also, the Marine Corps is part of the Navy.

Navy! You are more likely to be something other than a Grunt and actually get some training you can use in civilian life! You are less likely to be killed as well!
And the Marine Corp is a partner service under the Dept of the Navy. They are not part of the US Navy!

The Marine Corps is a part of the Navy. Both are part of the US military so there really is no "better."
If you are looking for softer or easier duty, consider the US Coast Guard. You never go more than a few miles away from home.

Which one pays a higher salary? They both are probably equal for the most part. The Federal Government takes better care of it's employees as seen by our Congres,Senate and ect. they get raises when we don't because they can vote themselves a raise and vote not to give anyone else one.
