Just ask him to a movie or sporting event or lunch or something...he's just a guy, like any other guy...and you're just a girl, like any other girl...
I wouldn't worry about the best friend thing either...why let that stop you from exploring something that could be fun?

I'm guessing you just ask him the same as you would any other guy. Contrary to popular belief they are human too. Have a graceful way to exit if he declines. Good Luck

cause jocks go out with cheer leaders tell your friend to suggest to him that you like him
