The Pope like any priest must live by the word of God. They cannot dwell so much on world itself. Pope Benedict XVI by his travels to Turkey speak to Greek Orthodox Patriarch on healing the wounds of the Great Schism in 1054.

He cares so much for the lay Catholic and is concern on their lives. That is why he wrote his first Encyclical "God is Love." The Pope come to serve the faithful, and not to be serve.

Susan is correct. The Pope is not a leader of a country. In fact, they have no UN Ambassadors.

In response to IthinkthereforeIbrokeit claimed that the CC teaches false doctrine is very incorrect. His understanding of Catholicism is false and misleading.

I like point out the fact, the correct terminology for the Catholic Church is just Catholic Church.

In the original Aramaic, (the language of Jesus) The Matthew verse would read something like this. "“Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Kepha, and on this Kepha I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Kepha is the Aramaic word for Rock. It does not mean small pebble. The Greek word for rock is petros (masculine) petra (femine). word pebble in greek is lithos. So our, Protestant friend got it wrong.

Matt. 16:18 - Jesus said in Aramaic, you are "Kepha" and on this "Kepha" I will build my Church. In Aramaic, "kepha" means a massive stone, and "evna" means little pebble. Some non-Catholics argue that, because the Greek word for rock is "petra", that "Petros" actually means "a small rock", and therefore Jesus was attempting to diminish Peter right after blessing him by calling him a small rock. Not only is this nonsensical in the context of Jesus' blessing of Peter, Jesus was speaking Aramaic and used "Kepha," not "evna." Using Petros to translate Kepha was done simply to reflect the masculine noun of Peter.

Moreover, if the translator wanted to identify Peter as the "small rock," he would have used "lithos" which means a little pebble in Greek. Also, Petros and petra were synonyms at the time the Gospel was written, so any attempt to distinguish the two words is inconsequential. Thus, Jesus called Peter the massive rock, not the little pebble, on which He would build the Church. (You don’t even need Matt. 16:18 to prove Peter is the rock because Jesus renamed Simon “rock” in Mark 3:16 and John 1:42!).

The Catholic Church is not in opposition to the Word of God. The Catholic Church gave the world the Bible.

Council of Rome in 382 A.D, Council of Hippo (393 AD), and Council of Carthage (397 AD)

Before Protestants, there was the Catholic Church. Protestantism came about in 1517. Before Eastern Orthodox which broke from the Catholic Church in 1054 AD), the Christian Church is Catholic. St. Ignatius of Antioch in 107 AD said, "where there is Jesus, there is the Catholic Church."

If you are referring to the pope, as in the roman catholic pope, then he most certainly does NOT live by the Word of God, as the very existence of the roman catholic church as it stands today, (and for the last two thousand years or so) is mutually exclusive from the Word of God.
The perversion they perpetrate is obvious. At the foundation, they choose to falsely interpret a passage of Scripture.
Matthew 16:15-19
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Simon Bar-Jonah = Peter (a nickname)
In the original language Peter = rock/pebble, more like something you would find in a driveway
whereas "and on this rock I will build" rock means rock more along the lines of an old style cornerstone, something more like the size of a car. (for rough comparison)
(paraphrasing)
What the RC Priests did a long time ago is ignore proper translation, and argue that the word for "old mr pebble" is the same as "giant chunk of granite", then added the "Apostolic Succession", saying that the first pope was determined by Jesus, meaning Peter, and that Jesus intended to use Peter as God's tool for the construction of the church, and then Peter chose the next guy who chose the next guy who chose the next guy. . . . .
People can argue about that till Jesus comes back for all I care, cause there are other things the Roman Catholic Church touts which are clearly in opposition to God. (most of it's common people members do not necessarily understand, know, or agree with all of it, so for my illustrations, I normally point out the "Officials" in the RCC, the ones who should have an advanced level of knowledge and completely agree with the stance the RCC takes, or be fired (ex-communicated))
Ever heard about the statue to help you sell your house? You go to the store and buy a doll, made in the image of some dead guy (RCC St. ?), pray to that particular dead guy, then bury the doll in your yard. Praying to anyone who is not God is sin, and the aforementioned ritual is borderline voodoo/witchcraft. They - RCC - commonly tell their members to pray to the saints, and to ask the priests to ask God to forgive them, and then they - RCC - tell the people to go earn something that is not for sale - forgiveness from God.
1st Timothy 2:5
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus
Romans 4:1-4
1 What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.

Since the Pope is the Ruler of a country, its mostly all political, God is just the smoke screen.

well considering that the "word of god" is man-made....id say they live by the world.

do you understand what that means though? i don't think you do. we live in this world....we have no choice but to live in this world. you can be my guest and continue to put your head in the clouds, hoping and dreaming of magical man, unicorns and heavens and hells but eventually you will have to come back to reality. and in reality none of that crap exists.

so there are your choices. remain childishly ignorant and dreaming of fantasies....or come back to reality and become a functioning member of society.

your choice.
