Webster's? Oxford? What happens when all Christian denominations have different views on sin? Who is right? Why can't we keep our faith to ourselves and accept each other. I have been guilty of this too.

The Bible

Dude, sin is simply living outside of God's will. How do you know God's will? Read the bible to get a specific idea. Who cares if different denominations have differing points of view. The Bible is only one and it defines sin as rebellion or living outside of God's will.
God is not only the creator of the universe and the soon and coming judge of the world, he is also a father who expects obedience from his children just like an earthly father would. If you were a good son and honor your parents you should have no problem living within
God's will. God is also personal and intimate. You can actually engage him with everyday affairs and obtain guidance for your life. He is not just a belief system--he is knocking at the door or your heart. If you open that door, he will come in and mingle with you. Give him a shot. All you have to lose is your sins.
Cheers,
Mr. M on "the word SIN."

Sin is anything that is contrary to the law or will of God. For example: if you lie, you have sinned. Why? Because God has said not to lie (Exodus 20:16). If you do what God has forbidden, then you have sinned. In addition, if you do not do what God has commanded, you sin (James 4:17). Either way, the result is eternal separation from God (Isaiah 59:2). Sin is lawlessness (1 John 1:3) and unrighteousness (1 John 5:17). Sin leads to bondage (Rom. 6:14-20) and death (Rom. 6:23).

Because the problem is that most religions teach that they are the only religion. There are also a lot of Cults that claim to be a religion like the Church of Scientology.

When Leah Remini is e-mailing and handing out pamphlets to her fans saying that everyone is evil if they aren't in the Church of Scientology, there goes another problem. Dont' get me started on that idiot Tom Cruise.

Money is another problem. Churches make hundreds of millions of dollars; and then uses that TAX FREE money, to back political agendas'. They have a lot of power and they know it and use it.

The best way is to live and let live. If people ask about our religion, then we can talk about it, but if not, we should shut up. Our actions and our lives show our religion. Actions speak louder than words.

We all define what is sin based on our upbringing and personal morals.
I agree with you when you ask why we can't keep our faiths to ourselves and accept each other as we are, but I'm afraid there will always be those who think that the only "right" way to be is their way.

According to those that first used the word it means "separate". We are born into sin as we are born separated from our source. God.

People can label it with all the activities they want but, it will never change the underlying truth. We would not behave this way if we where awake to the truth of our true nature.

The fact that people dissect, label, then argue over it is just another symptom of our separateness. It is not something to be judged, just understood... it's a reflection of what where we are.

Jesuits have defined it best, sin is anything that makes you feel bad and thus damages your psyche.
If you feel good or just OK about something you do, it does not meet the criteria of being a sin. Even killing someone.

God defines sin.
The definition is clearly laid out throughout the scriptures.

Humans can put up with a lot of sin. But since it is God that objects to it, God is gracious and faithful to define it for us in His Word.

none are right. because the Bible teaches us what is sin and not. ten commandments. and we were told to still keep these and abide by them. for the most part if you are a christian then the Holy Ghost will move upon your heart and let you know that you are not supposed to be doing what you are doing. most of us know what i am talking about cause they have gotten that feeling before.

and teaches us not to judge one another as well.

and also try telling someone who does not believe in the Bible they are full of sin. or even someone who follows the Bible and you think something they ae doing is sinfull but to them it is not.

i believe Jesus is the answere to your question though. he is our judge.

1Jo 3:4 ¶ Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

1Jo 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of Yahweh was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

I think that sums it up. KEEP THE LAWS OF YAHWEH!!!
