Are you on about nuclear radiation or normal radiation?

For nuclear radiation, that's not quite the case.

Alpha rays are easily stopped or reduced (even by a sheet of paper), but can do a lot of damage.

Comparatively, Gamma rays don't do as much damage (if you could compare a 'unit' of gamma radiation with a 'unit' of alpha radiation somehow) but are much harder to stop.

all radiation is harmful. but if the alternative is death, go for the radiation. if there is any other option at all, skip the radiation. it changes the cells in your body.
