Global warming is the warming of the earth primarily due to inreases of certain atmospheric gases - primarily methane and carbon dioxide. These gases are known as greenhouse gases because they trap heat in our atmosphere much like a greenhouse traps heat from sunlight. Global warming is not really related to the ozone layer as another person has suggested in her answer.

Nine of the last the last ten years are among the ten warmest on record, so there is evidence that the earth is in a warming trend. One hypothesis is that this warming is attributable to human activity, specifically emissions of carbon dioxide and methane in the production of energy and commercial products.

The concern about global warming is that it may be irreversible within the context of continued political stability. In some ways, it is a positive feedback loop - meaning that the more the earth warms up the more warming is accelerated. For instance, the polar ice caps reflect massive amounts of energy back into space. Were they to melt, 90% of the energy they are currently reflecting would be absorbed by the oceans in the form of heat. This would in turn cause the earth to warm up even faster.

One of the real dangers of global warming is a dramatic rise in sea levels. Melting of the arctic ice caps will not be a huge deal in and of itself because 90% of that water is already underwater and therefore contributing to sea levels. But should the ice shelf of Greenland melt or there be dramatic melts in Antarctica, sea levels could rise as much as 28 feet. This would wipe out something like half of the cities in the world. There would be hundreds of millions of refugees and most likely, world war.

Currently there is no definitive proof as to why earth is in a warming trend, but there is no doubt that over the last fifteen years, average global temperatures have been rising. It could be a cyclic effect or it could be a directional effect caused by human activity. Nobody knows for sure right now.

The simple way to understand is:
Carbon dioxide is good and bad.
Good = warming Earth’s atmosphere
Bad = too much will thin a layer of Ozone that protect us.

Global warming is one of the most serious increase in the average temperature.

Until a few thousand years goes by so that we may record data, global warming is unsubstantiated conjecture! In other words, it is a myth. In fact, evidence is available to suggest that the current ''warm up'' is nothing more than a part of a cycle, and that these cycles have been going on for millions of years! So I wouldn't purchase any land in Nevada thinking it will soon be beachfront!

It's too much Hydrogen Peroxide in the air causing the ozone layer (a layer that protects us from the heat of the sun) to have holes in it. It then damages the earth which causes global warming.

Global Warming is a complete farce based entirely on junk science. Don't believe a word of it. In ten years we'll be talking about "Global Cooling".

it is greenhouse gases getting trapped in our atmosphere then having them trap in sunlight(by reflection) causing the climate to become warmer.
