No, the change in law that requires a passport takes effect January 23, 2007 for those entering Canada by AIR only. For those entering Canada by land or sea the new passport requirement does not kick in until January 1, 2008. The US State Dept. has the rules here: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html

Yes you can go to Canada And yes you can still get back in with a drivers license, just plan on spending 2-3 hrs in an office while they crawl up your butt.
The passport requirement has been delayed for some months

I don't believe you can get a passport without your birth certificate. I could be wrong.

You can get a copy though of your birth certificate. I forget where you have to contact. Ask Social Services, they should be able to tell you who to contact to get a copy.

You can go into Canada, but you won't be able to come back to the US without a passport - I believe that new law is effective January 1st.

if you're a US citizen you should practice 2 products of identity alongside with a motive force's licence and one which shows evidence of citizenship. frequently evidence of citizenship is a beginning certificate, yet there might want to be different records which will be accepted.

All you need now is a valid driver's license. The law is changing soon (no date given yet) so eventually we'll all need a passport to come and go between our two countries.

Probably it seems pretty easy for you guys to come see us but for us to come down there is not so easy, they even want to know your underware size and you always feel seconds away from a full body cavity search, Since the recent upgrades I haven't even bothered trying to visit the U.S.

travelling by air or land? by air you need one of the above, but by land, a valid drivers license would be enough.
