The IRS starts accepting electronic returns on Jan 12, 2007. I've never seen an official statement about direct deposit dates. From my own experience using the 'Where's My Refund' link on the IRS site, it appears they process deposits only on Fridays. That would put the earliest refund date on Jan 19.

NOTE: e-file providers are required to obtain W-2s and any other documents that would be attached to a paper return before submitting you return electronically.

If you go to the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov, you can check on the status of your refund there. You will need to enter your social security number, filing status and the amount of the refund and they will tell you where it is.
