I hooked up a new dvd recorder to my television with the composite cables that were included with it. I was able to set up the dvd recorder and I can even scheduel when I want programs to record. the problem I am having is that whenever I put a dvd into the slot and then close it the dvd player does not read the disk or say that it is loading on the tv. it opens back up and gives me the disk back . Is there something else that I need to get it to work properly or do I need a new dvd recorder?

Read the front of the DVD recorder
Does it say DVD-R, DVD+R, etc.? Buy compatible DVDs and is should work. Yes, not all shinnings discs are the same.

If you have the correct discs and it does not work, then it is time to give it back.
