I don't know, but your definently right! My parents get me all those nice stuff too, a little too much, but whatever, and it doesn't mean we are spoiled!
Just because we can afford these things and you can't, doesn't mean you have to call 13 year olds spoiled!, Lol.
Adults just don't understand kids!

I can tell you for a FACT that my kids are spoiled. They have all the latest things. But I chose to spoil them. Why would I NOT buy it for them if I can?? That seems stupid to me. They should go without why? Does it build character? No. I think it builds resentment. I grew up poor, and if there is anyone on this site that was born before say 92 - they will remember the 80s. During that era in American History, the four must haves were Nike sneakers, Cio bags, cabbage patch kids and guess jeans. I didn't ever get any. And I knew not to beg. But if I had just one of those things I believe that I could have fit in better in school. When you are a teenager fitting in is SO important. And if you don't have the things the other kids have, you are singled out and picked on. Why put them through it? If you don't have the means, that is one thing - but really no excuse - you can buy things cheap on ebay - if everyone is wearing adio's a parent can't go to ebay and get a used pair for $5??? It seems like a small price to pay for a kid to have an easier time socially in school. There does come a point (about 16) when kids should start buying their own stuff though.

Nah. Of course we all didn't have cell phones when were kids. The technology wasn't there for some, and it was way way pricy for others. I was on the phone a heck of a lot when I was 13. But as far as cells go..... the portable ones hadn't been out that long. There weren't ANY towers to speak of around here. Plus, the cells at that time were like 15 pounds each, the battery died in a couple of minutes and you just knew you were begging for a brain tumor every time you spoke. That guy who answered the previous question needs to realize just how much technology has changed. I mean, my hubby and I don't even have landline phones. We prefer our cells. And no doubt, in a couple of years our son will have a cell too. Not spoiled. It's just the way it works anymore.

it is sure some thing new to see kids with phones. i find it odd how kids can afford to be talking and text messaging all the time where do you get the money for that.
as for the ipod well that and the phone are not cheap things and the fact is when we were kids or even adults cell phones and ipods and the other expensive gadgets are to me just too much .
at 13 if you want to talk with your friend go see them .
another thing i have seen and i think it nuts is this a group of teens standing around togehter but instead of talking to each other like normal people would they are all on there phones talking to someone else . now that is just plain silly .

Because at 13 you should be worried about school and being a child... rather than pretending to be an adult. At 13 I had a bike... I got my first cell phone at 18..when I could get it on my own.
And I am much more responsible because of the fact that I was NOT given everything on God's green earth...instead I had to work for what I wanted.
Basically, to answer 13 year olds/their parents giving them everything they want is part of what is wrong with society today. Most people don't want to work for anything..they expect it to be handed to them...OOOOOOOO and don't forget the silver platter!
***And to add to you additional comments: Some people should not have children, if they are not going to take the time for them. Money NEVER buys happiness! And a "career" is NEVER more important than your child- a living breathing being.***

I wouldn't go as far as to say they are spoiled brats. I consider kids that have these things and aren't appreciative and respectful that not everyone can afford these luxiouries to be spoiled brats. It's okay to have expensive stuff you don't need if you realize that you can live without it and still be happy. My generation didn't have as much as this generation does, but we had more than the generation before mine had. Maybe people from my generation and before are just jealous that they weren't blessed with this sort of technology. But, hey, if your parents can afford it and want to buy it for you, then by all means, that just makes you privledged. Appreciate it, but don't abuse it.

the fact that you have asked this question makes me believe that you are feeling guilty because you may be spoiled.
It's really the parents fault that kids are the way they are.
it's really hard for parents not to want to give their kids everything they want because they love them and don't want them to feel left out when others have these things. it's sort of a vicious circle and it's called keep ing up with the Jones.
And, it's also got to do with commercialism and capitalism and etc etc.
but, don't take it too hard. just enjoy what you have and be thankful that your parents can give you these things and be sure to thank them for it once in a while.
i am 46 and my parents still give me stuff and I am just thankful for it and don't feel spoiled!

Kind of, yes. I don't necessarily think they're brats though! I think teens need to learn to work for what they want (ex: for things that are not necessary). Otherwise they might grow up thinking that material things come easy and not realize how many hours it takes working in order to save up $ for an item. These gadgets are so expensive these days, yikes!

uh, yea.
13 year old from prior generations all did fine without cell phones and mp3 players.
Having parents spend hundreds of dollars on something a kid really doesn't need is just absurd.

How can you be 13 and spell the word "phone" with an "f?" Good lord.
Spoiled to me refers to an attitude, not a number of possessions. And i think anyone who buys their kids the latest so they'll fit in teaches them COMPLETELY the wrong things, like it's ok to judge and be judged based on possessions. Pathetic, really.
