just simply write him back and say that you are glad that he is so excited with his new expensive toy and that you hope he uses it instead of just talking about and that yes your camera just died of complete camera envy and that he can now relax as he accomplished his mission then listen to him whine about you being touchy might buy him a bunch of those big surgical band aids for his over sized mouth lol

If your looking for a burn...something like...yeah but mom loves me more,... or... will it get you laid? might work.
or
Don't answer him. He might get pissed that you didn't give him any attention.
or
A tech answer you might tell him that most cameras have auto focus and since you place the face as the main portion of the camera it will focus on their face anyway. As for the 2GB card, that was a good find, but beware of the brand Kingston Standard they were in the Consumers Report as the worst manufactured product of 2006 (lie, but thats probably the one he bought). He should have bought the new HP photosmart r927 it stitches 5 shots side by side.
or
Just be the better sibling and support him, because when its all said and done who gives a crap, you're going to love him anyway.

Your brother appears to have some serious issues. It seems he is concentrating on instigating an argument of sorts even more than being braggadocios on his new camera. It seems like he is trying to prove something or out do you for other things that have happened in the past. Like you got better grades than he did or you were better at something and now he is trying to prove he can be better than you.

I find that people who boast all of the time are coming from one of two places. 1) They are so insecure that this is the only way to make themselves feel better--it's a twisted form of validation (even if they don't receive it from others, they've given it to themselves in one way or another). 2) They know it drives you crazy because it makes you feel insecure and therefore they do it--because, again, it makes them top dog in some form or another. If he's coming from 1)--feel some compassion and be grateful you don't feel so crappy about yourself that you need to do that. Because of that compassion, congratulate him on his excellent purchasing sense and tell him you'll take him with you next time you go shopping. If he's coming from 2) --congratulate him on his excellent purchasing sense and tell him you'll take him with him next time you go shopping. The less it seems to bother you, the less useful it will become for him. I hate to be redundant there--but for me, there's only one answer. Sometimes it's hard to suck up the pride to write back something like that, but when you realize you have nothing to defend yourself for and so no reason to be angry, it's a little easier. Just my two cents. Then again, I don't know your brother or you--and this is just my experience with braggarts. :) Finally, remember to laugh hysterically at your brother's emails before you decide what to do. When you look at that one with some perspective, it's $%#**ing hysterical.
Okay, I have to add that I really like Tinkerbell's idea too;)

Tell him, "I'm very happy for you, and I'm glad you have found these things that make you so happy. Sounds like you got a good deal too." I'm very happy with my camera, it does a good job for my needs."
That ought to shut him down for a little. Sounds like he likes to brag, so keep using this strategy, agree with him in the nicest way, and say you're happy with your stuff.
Good luck, this kind of thing can drive you nuts.

Gee - WOW Could you recommend the best camera I can buy for 425 that does all that? My neighbor just told me that you are missing the most important part of all.

Reminds me of that old children's song, "My Dog's Better Than Your Dog" (my dog's prettier than yours, my dog's faster...." Best way to get at him...? IGNORE his childish bragging! That will surely take care of his cookies! (When he starts bragging again, say, "Good for you!" and change the topic to something else EACH and EVERY TIME he starts to brag... eventually, he'll get the hint).
The only reason he does it is because you react to it. Stop reacting and just ignore him. Be the adult. Let him continue being the child until he gets the hint.
Best wishes.

Realize that he can't help being insecure around you... you are such a better person than he is. Let him have his glory and find out where he got such a bargain... what it cost him... and how often he will be using it.
Then the kicker will be when you ask if you can borrow it!

Send the email to everyone you and he know with a line down the bottom saying have you ever heard anything like this wanker before? That should cure him.

Tell him that yes it does all of those things, plus it holds your drink at a party, gets you out of speeding tickets and pees for you. That should get his attention.
