I have a 8 month old male who isn't fixed. I know and understand the differences of a male not being fixed. I believe he could have been feral before we recieved him. We received him when he was about 4 weeks old. We hand raised him, bottled fed him, you named it...we did it. He WILL NOT let anyone other than me and my husband to touch him, even the though the other two older cats reassure him that it's okay. My two step-daughters come over every other weekend and stay with us for 3 days, and they still are not allowed to touch him. Other friends and family come over, he reacts the same to them also. He hasn't actaully hurt anyone but he sure does put on a show. Was my kitten possibly feral or is he just protecting our pack???

Kittens can go feral VERY quickly! Therefore it is possible that's what you are dealing with. Also I have heard it said that cats decended from feral colonies tend to retain more feral tendencies but I don't know much about this.

There are three other factors to consider here though:
1. He's not yet fixed and he is reaching "that age." Once you have him fixed it may help to calm him down some.
2. I've known a few kittens who were "wild things" in their youth but who settled out with age. Yours may as well.
3. You kitten may just be very shy. I had two who were born from a stray mom into our home. They knew no hardship and were exposed to humans (and human kindness) from day one. They loved my family, but strangers were an entirely different story. It's possible this little guy loves you two and that's going to be it for him.

Good luck.

Most kittens who are born from one feral parent will display some feral characteristics, but the domesticated instincts are still more prevalent. Getting him fixed will definitely help with calming him down a bit, and may help with him letting other people contact him.

Your cat sounds like our kitten. We got her at 7 weeks old and I think she is feral. She hisses and spits and arches her back all the time and bites and scratches. I am a new cat owner and am not familiar w/ ferals. I am researching info on what to do to tame her.

My kitty is a little girl who is now 24 years old (cat years) 2 in human. She's always been like that as a kitten. Growling was her specialty. She has only just started to be a bit friendlier to others now. I'm hoping in time she will come good and I really think she will because of the progress made already. We rescued her from the pound so its possible she was a little feral one too. I think your little bundle of joy will come good with time like ours did. Good luck, it's bloody frustrating!

My boy, we got him from a pet store. He is very affectionate with us (family) but when others come around he growls and sometimes hisses. My other cat, we saved her from the rim of a truck tire. she was around 5-6 weeks. She has not come around, she hides all the time and won't let ANYBODY hold her, not even us. She's always hiding. I don't know what to say about your cat. I say just get him fixed right away before complications start.

He probably was. He might get used to other people, but it will probably take time and exposure to other people to reassure him.
