This isn't a joke! Buy packages of cheap dinner rolls in the tubes in the refrigerated section. Poke your finger through the cenetr for the hole and drop into hot oil. As the underside browns flip over. They take about 1 1/2 minutes to fry. Drain on paper towels and immediately top with powdered sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon and sugar or icing.
These are wonderful, cheap and easy!

I have a good recipe that is a sync.
Buy some of the biscuits is a can, the ones that you pull and pop open. I like the buttermilk kind the best, the buttery and flaky layers don't work too well.
Pop open the can and either tear a ring in the center or use a tiny cookie cutter to cut out a hole - if you do this you can use the centers as donut holes.
Fry the donut over med/high heat - hot enough to cook, not too hot that it will burn. Then cook the biscuits until then are golden brown on each side. Do not over crowd the pot or else the won't cook evenly or through. Drain on a cooling rack over paper towels for a few minutes. Take a few brown paper lunch sacks and double them up add confectioners sugar to one set, and cinnamon sugar to another, you could also make a glaze by adding milk to confectioners sugar in a bowl and dip the donuts in them. Either way they are warm and gooey and oh so yummy. This recipe has been passed down from my grandma to my mom to me.

Use Pizza Dough and Cookie Cutters! Better bang for your buck compared to Pillsbury biscuits as others were saying as you get so much more dough that can be frozen and used at a later time. Use a large cutter to cut out the doughnut and a small cutter to make the centre...then fry up the doughnut and the centres...mmm...just like Timbits! Dust in a sugar and cinnamon mixture.
