Cane Corsos can be very dominant, but like children they need boundaries and consistency. They must be socialized from the time they are puppies to get them used to being around others. My corso loves to be around people but will be initially wary when I am walking her around strangers; she is protective of me. Around children, however, she is wonderful! She will jump occasionally and with her weight that can sometimes be a problem, but she only does that out of pure excitement! She is truly a gentle giant. And if properly raised- letting them know YOU are boss and lots of socialization- they can be good family dogs :)

Cane Corsos, although not as widely known, have the same reputation as Pit Bulls.
This dog requires a well educated owner who knows how to handle a BIG strong dog who has a history of aggressiveness. The dog also requires odedience training and I'm not just talking puppy classes. All the way through the program. Not a breed to be taken lightly.
A lot of people will defend this breed, but I'm not trying to downtalk the Cane Corso. I know the history of the breed and I am very well aware of the lawsuits, both past and present, all over the world.
ADDED....Hey Walking Lady, if you're going to copy and paste from a web site at least give the credit to the site instead of passing it off as your own. I read those EXACT words on dogbreedinfo.com It's too bad that you don't read far enough to give the whole truth though.

As i say to alot of people it's the way you raise them from young if the pup was socilised well with everything from 8weeks upwards then it should become a good all round family pet.Cane Corso's are lovely dogs but should really be for expeirienced owners who are used to giant breeds of dogs,if your not expeirienced it would be very easy for a cane corso or any large dog to over power it's owner.Alot of male large dogs have a dominant streak in them so if you were planning on a cane corso then i would advice a female.Good luck

A well-bred, well-trained Cane Corso is extremely loyal to his family, and is an excellent guard dog.
Unfortunately, because they are Molosser breeds, there are poorly-bred, poorly-trained Corsos out there that have been used as "penis extensions" for those who need a "big bad dog" in order to feel important.
Unless you're looking for the guard dog capabilities of the Cane Corso, I would consider a different breed as a "family dog".

THis is a breed well known for it's guard dog tendancies. WOuld I trust it in a house with small children? The answer is "NO". Unless they are extremely well trained and well socialized, they can be a problem dog. There are some agressive tendancies and they require a very "strong" (an I am not speaking physically) owner who can curb them and make them listen.

Yes, they love kids, are quiet in the house, don't bark much, are instinctive guard dogs and aloof with strangers. They should be socialized a lot starting right when they're young puppies.

Almost any dog can be a good family dog but it depends on your type of family.
