It's the hamstring muscle and it is prone to spasms called Charlie Horse's. Some people who get a lot of these spasms find that they are lacking in calcium. Try a few things. Drink more milk, and./ or take calcium suppliments, and try soaking in a hot tub for an hour. Use a topical ointment like IcyHot or good old BenGay to ease muscle tension. IF the problem persists, see the doctor. Clots form when people are stuck in one (usually bent) position, like on a long airplane flight in coach...and they can't move their legs to get the circulation going. You sound like you just have a simple muscle spasm.

The muscles to which you refer are commonly referred to as the "hamstrings." The actual names of the muscles are much less familiar than most in the body. they are 1) Biceps Femoris (both long and short head) 2) semimembranosus 3) semitendinosus. If the pain that you are suffering is muscular in origin...you likely have a "pulled hamstring". But see your doctor to be sure

Yeah. It's a hamstring muscle. Were you stretching and you've never done that stretch before or did you fall down the stairs??? Trip or something? Maybe go to the doctor cuz none of us can diagnose you!

why not resume running or even going to the gym? you built up the thigh biceps with all that running and suddenly you quit. the tendons tend to start shortening because you don't run and stretch. it is simple. also, giving up the running is probably the source of your anxiety. if you cannot run for some reason, do something.

you have three muscles back there. as a group they are called your hamstrings. 1. bicep femoris 2. semi membranosus 3. semittendinosus. try to keep warm moist heat on it. (wet towel, hot bath) go see a massage therapist

Try stretching your hamstring. If that doesnt work, try EITHER motrin or a muscle relaxer (if you have a prescription for one that'll work just fine) and thena long hot bath.
Hope you feel better!
