Ever try an anti-inflammatory? Cortisone and salicylic ointments can do wonders (just recently I discovered that certain muscle and joint rubs have 4-10X higher concentration than pimple treatments and can completely remove reddening and swelling within 30-60 minutes after a single application :-D ... don't apply more then once in 6 hours though and don't over apply it! otherwise you'll get reddening from skin agitation). Also, if you apply any sort of salicylic treatment, DON'T disturb the skin prior to application.

Invest in a good concealer. I like physician's formula. You can get green (that's the opposite of red) and is supposed to nullify the red, but I think it just makes you look green. Also, try a non oily lotion, like neutrogena or something gentle, to soothe your skin. Do not scrub, it will just irritate your skin and make it redder.
Enjoy your evening.

When I have breakouts, I use a bluish-green coloured concealer under my makeup to neutralize the red tone. I use the M.A.C one mixed with a little regular toned concealer or foundation so that its not too green looking on my skin. Finish with a powder.

Use a really cold washcloth and it beofre you put your makeup on. Just once it gets warm from your skin do it couple more times..Also if you have a humidifyer put your face in front of it for a few minutes it opens your pores and feels great! =P Muha!

Buy a vitamin stick. They look like green lipstick and you can get them in the lipstick aisle. They really get rid on the red.
