Depends on the jurisdiction. Federal executions are by lethal injection. States vary. About 35 states have the death penalty. NH and Wash use hanging (in Wash the prisoner may elect lethal injection). Utah offers firing squad or lethal injection. Most others use lethal injection.

Methods vary from state to state but generally it is injection, IV deadly mixture, electric chair, or an apparatus resembling a gas mask and obviously they have a deadly gas hooked to a tank. I have seen an execution by electric chair very gruesome if you have a strong stomach watch i have a cert. in death investigation "crisper's" aka Kentucky fried would make you never roast marshmallows again in your life

I believe that each state has it's own guidelines. Most states do lethal injections, but some states still use electrocution and/or hanging as methods of execution.
