My grandfather used to call us what sounded like "shmootchkey". Completely off the wall, I know, but that's the best I can do phonetically. He said it meant "friend" or "my friend" in Polish. I'm hoping to find out so I can continue this tradition after his death.

Hello. From an oline Polish-English dictionary, here are various words meaning " friend". None of them seems close to the phonetically spelled word above., but that is the best I can come up with.

Results: FRIEND

N PRZYJACIEL, KOLEGA, ZNAJOMY, KUM, POBRATYMIEC, KLIENT

"best friend":

'najlepszy kumpel' is 'best buddy'
'najlepszy przyjaciel' is 'best friend'

both above are masculine
