Go up to him with a friend and say hi. Then, you and your friend should just stop walking and start talking about going to the movies. You should pretend to argue about what to see. Then your friend should ask him which movie you guys should go see. If he says one of the movies you " argued" about, or another movie, just agree. Then casually ask him if he would like to go also. It will be easier with a friend aound, also if it came up in a sort of casual situation.

Think of it this way...if you don't get the nerve to do it soon, someone else may ask him or someone may catch his eye and he may go for her...
Don't procrastinate so long that you miss out...you've got nothing to lose, the worst that can happen is he says no and if that happens you're no worse off than you are now.
