Colt Python and Ruger 101 are the 2 heavy hitters in this market. I own 3 Pythons with differnt barrels. I have never shot a finer revolver than a Colt Python, and Ive shot just about all of them in todays market.
Heres an artical that may give you some help. Keep in mind most revolvers come in several barrel lengths.

There are revolvers in .38SW (virtually obsolete) and .38SW Special. The caliber .380 is .380acp (9mm short or 9x17mm). Revolvers in .357 (.38SPL/.357magnum) are the ones you want. Smith and Wessons are the all around best but I would buy a used one before paying the used prices. Rugers (.357mag) are getting ridiculous in price. I'd like to tell you to get a Taurus, but they are so cheap even after many refinements.
You judge quality by the little things, such as the cylinder-open latch (potmetal on a Taurus) or machining of steps on rear of cylinder (LOUSY on a Taurus). A Taurus will save your life on a budget, but I would taje a used Smith/Ruger/Colt anyday over a new Taurus.

The .380 is a rimless auto round. You'll be hardpressed to find ANY revolvers chambered for it.
If you mean .38, buy a decent .357mag and pop off all the .38's you want through it. If you later decide to move up a bit in power, buy yourself a box of .357mag's.
Ruger and Taurus both produce fine .357's that will do you no wrong. Colt is overpriced name brand crap. S&W is cheap because a LOT of folks refuse to buy their crap after the anti-gun bullshit they pulled a few years back.
In response to Dave what's his name....
Sorry to point out your flaws yet again, bud, but you're totally off the wall ridiculous on your Taurus remarks, bud.
Taurus handguns are highly respected in the industry and very highly recommended by all of the firearms review forums. In fact, there has never been one example that I've seen regarding a bad Taurus review. If you have some cites that back your claims, bud, I'd be glad to see them. Something tells me, though, that like my other requests, this one will go unanswered by you as well.
Colt .357's....let's see....used $700. Ruger new $350-400. Easy decision there.
Rugers and Taurus's are highly respected weapons. Colts will get you sneered at behind your back. S&W's can and often will get you cussed out of the range.

dont see too many modern .380 revolvers. alot of autoloaders. i would go with a smith & wesson 38 special. basically any model, but the good ol model 36, or chiefs special, is as reliable gun as was ever made.
if you are looking for a 380 auto, stay away from the lorcin's. they are cheap and will fire, but you get what you pay for. spend the extra money and get a name brand.
