I think what sylvia brown is saying is that we have a life that is created before we are born with major things that teach us, how to deal with emotions and yes for some it is more of a struggle then others but it is what you get from those struggles is what you should be focussing on...gain strenth and knowledge from them and use them to your best abilities. As for those that you think have the perfect life not all as it seems on the outside, The frosting may look fantastic but the reality is more often then not the cake is mouldy on the inside...we all have hang ups we all have problems no one or no ones life is perfect. Concentrate on what you have be greatful for what you have, and good things will come eventually.
I wish you well with it all

Sylvia Browne aside, you might pick a difficult life in order to learn from it. You say you adore your children. Well, having those children in the midst of a rough life makes how special they are incredibly apparent. They mean that much more to you because of what you have experienced. Maybe that was something you felt you needed to understand better.
At other times, maybe you would choose to experience an easy life. Even people who seem to have everything have troubles. We are here to learn and expand ourselves as spiritual beings.

I will negate for a moment the fact that I think Sylvia Browne is a loathsome, Pecksniffian quack, I was goaded into reading one of her books by a friend of mine, and I got the impression that the people that "choose" hard lives for themselves are there to learn something...I guess what one is supposed to learn depends on the person.
Personally, I think she preys on people's desperation and need to feel that everything is "okay," and even if it seems like life is kicking you in the face, it's all alright because that's the way it's "supposed" to be. In particular she preys on people who have lost a loved one and need to be consoled and told that everything is all right and their loved one is on "the Other Side" blah blah blah. I don't know whether she's delusional or a deliberate charlatan; either way it's despicable.

well this is the first time i agree with Sylvia to an extent
yes i do believe that we pick our lives ...but i do not believe we know every aspect of it
i do believe that we do pick suffering for ourself because we can see the bigger picture in spirit ... we see the lessons that come from it... and even in hindsight we can do that in this life if we think about it
and people who seem to have everything .. you can bet they dont

we don't map out every moment. we choose the things that we still need to learn.
even the people who seem to have everything have things that they are learning (no ones life is perfect. we don't see the problems that they are facing.)
as bad as it seems sometimes we are here to learn, and when we've learned everything that we are supposed to we can choose not to return to this plane.

Well what she may be saying is, the aspect of Karma. Whatever mistakes and bad deeds we did in our past lives are bound to be made good for in this and our future births.

Sylvia is wonderful - she correctly predicted that within 72 hours of talking to her, I would have a bowel movement. She's AWESOME!

I have heard this line before. In my opinion, I think its just someone blaming the victim so they dont have to feel badly about not helping. You see a victim of Katrina or a tsunami, no problem, that person chose it for himself. Someone has cancer, hey its their choice. You get the idea.
