I don't understand why she does this. She says it is just "play clothes". It really bothers me because they are 3 and 4 years old and my 4 year old is starting to know the difference in boys and girls and seems to think it is ok to dress like a boy because her granny dresses her that way. I am not talking about just a boy t-shirt or something like that, I am talking full boy outfits such as jogging suits with football, spiderman, etc.. just boy stuff. My girls are not even the least bit tom-boyish, it's like she is trying to make them that way. She keeps the clothes at her house and dresses them in them when I am not there. Is this strange??????? or am I overreacting? I have never heard of a grandparent doing this. Please answer and help me figure out a way to handle this! I am not out to hurt someones feelings.

Do you think maybe she got the clothing on a big discount and figured, "ahh why not? just play clothes.. cant beat this outfit for 4.00"... ?

maybe next time the girls go over to grandma's, pack some "play clothes" to take along. kindly tell mom-in-law, "I went ahead and packed some extra play clothes in case they get dirty..."

I dont see too much of a problem it really makes sense to me. Its easier for a little girl to have fun and play if there wearing pants and a t shirt. Also less skinned knees if theyre wearing pants rather than a skirt. But if it is bothering you than talk to your mother in law tell her how you feel. Maybe you two could pick out some play clothes that you both approve of.

Then STOP taking your kids to your mother in laws house. Tell her that until she can dress your girls in frilly pink and white dresses with peticoates while they play in the sandbox, swing on the swings, climb slide ladders and slide down, run and play like ALL kids should then she can't see the children.
What difference does it make what they are wearing? Does she LOVE the kids? Does she treat YOU with respect and love? Is the world going to end because the girls are wearing a spiderman jogging suit? Hell be thankful they are DRESSED.

Yeah that's weird. It's odd that she changes them when you leave. Perhaps you could bring their "play clothes" over there and tell her to use those. Or tell her it's ok if they stay in the clothes they're in. Or tell her the girls told you they don't like wearing boys clothes.

Grandparents do the strangest things. My mother bought my son a pair of red, yellow, orange and green stripped pants when he was an infant. They were hideous. And now that he is 27 months old, he is very curious, and when my little sister is fixing her hair, he insists on having his done too....hair bows, clippies, even very girly headbands. She even took a picture of him wearing one of my sisters skirts.

You know what? I agree with you, this is not right, I have my daughter who is 3 years old, before that I had all boys, I relish in dressing my daughter like a little young lady, I would never put her in boy clothes, I'd be upset if someone did! She barely even owns any blue clothing. I would talk to your daughters (he, he) brainwash, so to speak and ask them to mention they don't like wearing boys clothes , that they aren't pretty, or something to that effect. It's wrong! That is just my opinion, if you had a son, would she dress him in girls clothes???

Your going to need your husband to back you. Then both of you need to talk to her. It is strange, when she is doing something you don't like & have asked her to stop. Let her know that you don't want her to "play that game" good luck.
