My little brother lives in another city with his mother. He is 16 yrs old. He came to stay with me for the holidays. He said he met a girl (his age) on myspace and asked me if I would let him go to the movies with her. They have only spoken my IM and by phone. Should I let him go? Should I go with him?

No no. He met the girl on myspace, so its not a good idea at all, he's never even met her! Tell him to go out and actually met girls lol. Warn him of the dangers, its possible she's lying about her age and could be a pedophile.

However, this needs to be discussed with his mother. Call her and tell her the situation, different families have different rules about dating age-wise.

But 16 is an ok age to start dating provided he actually met a girl and not through myspace. Maybe a group date would be good with another firned and their date and a girl he met from school would be a good start to start dating.

Um.. I'd say No because letting a 16 year old boy starting dating is the bad way! cause after if they get used together they will have some sexual stuff.. and it might damage his school grades so when he finished college and got a job he might start dating cause he has school and failing is a very sad thing for you're little brother. But if the parents allow its okay ! its not my responsibility it theirs but if you want to take my advice I would say No when he becomes 21 or 22 its fine.

It should be up to the mother. Please do what you can to make sure that it really is a girl he met and not a predator. 16 year old boys can still be victims. If mom's ok with it and the brother is a normal, age-appropriate mature boy, then he should be allowed to go. give him a curfew and let him know the consequences if he doesn't follow the appropriate rules.

I don't know if you should allow him to go on the date. If he goes on the date and starts to like the girl and continues the relationship and it changes him for the worst your mother will blame you. You may need to limit his access to the internet while he is visiting you. If you do allow him to go you definitely need to go with him and keep a close watch in him and the girl.
