If you've been depressed for more than a few days, see a doctor or counselor right away. Call your county's mental health department if you don't have insurance.

In this day and age, it's not necessary to suffer from depression when there are so many great, new treatments for it. Part the problem of depression is that it causes you to not care enough to seek help. Fight that urge and get it taken care of. You'll feel better.

Do it now!

If this has been going on for awhile, or if you're thinking about suicide, get to a mental health professional right away. If you don't have the money or insurance, contact your county mental health department and find out what programs are available through them.

If this is something that comes up for you in the winter, it could be SAD (seasonal affective disorder) that is caused by getting less light in the winter. One thing that helps is getting more time outside in the light. There are other treatments available, too, like special lights.

If you're dissatisfied with your life in general, maybe you need to think about what you'd like to change and how you'd like to change it.

Spend time with friends. Focus on doing the things you enjoy. If you're not enjoying anything, it's a symptom of serious depression and you need to see a professional for some help.

Do fun things and nice things for you. Try not to stay in bed and feel bad, but get up in the mornings, take a shower, and get out of the house. It always helps to do service for someone else. Sometimes there is someone that there is alot worse off than we are. I am not minamizing from how you are feeling by no means these are merely suggestions. Exercise does help also. If the depression continues you may want to see someone. It may really help. Take care.

I suffer from it myself. Since I don't have the insurance right now for medication, I have found that physical exercise is just the ticket. Find a workout facility and spend at least 30 minutes to an hour doing a variety of workout activities (treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, weights, etc.). You'll be surprised what a difference it will make.

By getting help. If you don't work through the issue(s) causing your depression, they will always be there. No matter how much medication you take. Medications are only to help you while you are working through the problem. They are not meant to be on forever.

So, have your doctor refer you to a therapist.

If you are not the type of person that would run to a therapist everytime you are feeling low - Try to keep yourself busy and surrounded by friends. Take up a new hobby or a new class at your local junior college or community center.

Good luck & Happy New Year!
