you could get him some inspiration books ore take him out on a friends night out to dinner or a movie you now him best do something that he enjoys that is not a trigger for him keep in mind he has a long time clean so reword him for it help him to have fun sober I am a recovering addict my self and i know that its nice just to have real friends who tell me how proud of me they are the things i stated to give would be things i would appreciate

I've never given gifts before for those type of anniversaries. Maybe the two of you could go out to dinner.

Surely your friends needs to move on from his past, rather than have a constant reminder of days he would rather forget. He has done a fabulous job staying sober for 8 years but don't dwell on the past, look to the future.

A big cake and a lot of praise for his accomplishment.That always works for my dad. I always bake him a cake.And make a big deal out of his accomplishment. You should be very proud of him.It takes a lot to break bad habits.
