My husband has ulcerated colitis. He loves Beans and Ham but not the "problems" that come with it. I have been told some types of beans cause less gas than others. Any help would be appreciated

Most beans cause gas. Start with dry beans, soak overnight in water (regardless of what package says). Cook the beans (in different water) and cook with a stalk of celery in the pot. I got this tip from Weight Watchers and it works. It acts like Beano - but tastes better.

The answerer above that said to use different cooking water from the bean soaking water is correct - this does help cut down on the gassiness of the beans. I have not tried the stalk of celery - but I will now.

Also the beano idea would be a good idea for your husband.

I love ham and beans!!!!!!!! Great Northern, pinto, and butter beans are my favs.

Also - a great favorite of mine is green beans, potatoes and ham cooked in one pot together - that is sooooooooooo good!!!! Not quite so gassy either.

The only beans in this whole world that doesn't give you gas is jelly beans. It sounds crazy but it's true. If you don't believe me, go ahead and try the other beans and see the outcome.
