How to use a scaler and pick?

how do you use a dental scaler and a pick?

i just brought 1 and the info on the packet isnt very good and i need to se them tommorrow?

First off, you really should see a hygienist to have your teeth properly cleaned. I am a hygienist and for the life of me, I have never understood why they even sell these packets in the stores. Of course, they are not as sharp as the ones a hygienist will use, nor are they as good, but you can still do harm to your gums using these store bought products.
I honestly will not give you advice on how to use these other than to be very careful around your gum tissues if you so choose to use these in your mouth. I am curious as to why you feel you need to use these at home anyway...maybe you have some buildup you are trying to remove? If that is the case, until you get in to a dentist office and have your teeth cleaned, I would suggest purchasing a toothpaste with baking soda ( do not use baking soda all the time though, it is an abrasive ) and give your teeth a good cleaning and then floss afterwards.

Again, just let me stress, to be very careful around your gum tissues if you use this scaler...I will tell you right now what they sell in the stores is really not good enough to remove buildup that a hygienist would be able to remove. Basically, you will remove any soft plaque which you can do with a good brushing and floss and you stand a great chance of mauling your gum tissues in the process.

Let me also add by using these if you have any silver fillings or bonding on your teeth a scaler not used properly can also damage these.

It is interesting that you happen to ask a question about dentistry, I am currently suffering from a tooth ache and I just finished taking some advil for the pain!! (Time to visit the dentist!)

Dentistry is such anamazing field! Just like Surgery, it can change completely and even save the life of a person! (an abscessed tooth can cause major infection that can spread to the blood stream and kill)

Dentists are wonderful practitioners in the medical field. However, those who use laughing gas to relax the patient before a procedure are my favorite, they make things much easier for me -considering that I am afraid of needles!- ;)

Well, as everyone else mentioned before, this instruments are best left to the professionals. However, if you insist in doing some home cleaning of your own and feel confident enough to handle the scaler and pick, you must be aware that just as much as they can help you, they can also cause some harm if not used properly.

are you going to the doctor tomorrow??? dentist? well first of all there is no hiding from your dentist, your mouth will tell all of your dirty secrets. BUT if you are planning on doing some pre cleaning i would recomend very lighlty following the gum line with your scaler, you will want just the slightest amount of the tip to fall below the gum line then sweep slowly along the gum line of all of your teeth, you will want to clean the instrument after ever tooth and remeber what you cant see you cant get, so floss anyways. brush very well before your appointment tomorrow and good luck

As explained well above, these are not instruments of dental quality, nor will you be able to handle them in the correct manner.
I have had one patient who tried this on himself - he didn't hurt himself, but he couldn't get a smooth result and actually made it rougher. The rough edges drove him crazy until he could get an appointment for a cleanup.

Ask your mum if you can hold a mirror when she cleans your teeth. Steal a real scaler from her office and do it yourself.

Its not bad but you can scratch your teeth. You should use that to pick food out of your teeth etc. Just brush your teeth and youll be fine!
