Would you be surprised to find that all the so called atheists actually believed in God? Tell the people that there is no power greater than the government is there a better way to control the masses?

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that the founders of some of today's mainstream religions were atheist, but religion itself has existed since the dawn of humanity.

"Religion is not important, to have a personal relationship with Christ is what matters; When we focus on people we get discourage because they show us all their diffects, so we say forget this I don't want nothing to do with religion, but if you actually read the bible and did research on your own you will find out that being in a personal relationship regardless of what other people say is what matters most... No doubt some have been. The very idea of "religion" trumping "spirituality" is horrendous to me anyway.

Yes, the ironic part is, you are almost certainly correct.
They were either atheists with a desire to take advantage of people, or they were just plain crazy, but charismatic enough to make people believe they weren't.
