Ok so I took this medication for about 4 days. I started having stomach pains really bad...i had read the pamplet and it said abdominal pain was a side effect so i wasnt worried. The next night my appendix busted. This was horrible...... hurt something awful and had to spend time in the hospital. Does anyone think this was caused by the Celexa or was it just a fluke? Im kinda scared to start taking it again...it made me very sleepy. Im only on a 5mg dosage a day because i have a very low tolerance for any kind of meds....i just cant take em. So my doc put me on half of a 10 mg once daily. Thanks for your answers.

appendicitis is a result of infection, not medication. It just happened to occur shortly after you started the Celexa, pure coincidence.

Today's antidepressants are great medications. All are so new that no one can predict the side effects. Taking these medications is really a trial and error process. If you can't tolerate the medication after a few days, talk to your doctor and try another.

In most cases the side effects go away quickly, but sometimes they don't.

It's very doubtful the drug caused your problem, but the best thing to do is ask your doctor, especially if you're unsure.

I really doubt if the Celexa caused the appendicitis especially if you only took it for only 4 days. Celexa needs about 6 weeks to be effective. My suggestion to you is to try it again, and if you find you are having problems, talk to your doctor.

I have been on Celexa for a couple of years. The side effects I have had are weight gain, tiredness, and lethargy. I am not happy with the weight gain, but I would rather be a little chubby than the wicked witch of the north.

Again, if your side effects are intolerable talk to your doctor, and I am sure they can find something more suitable for you.

I believe it was pure coincedence. Appendicitis is caused by an infection, not a medication.I know someone who has taken it for about a year now. She has said sometimes it makes her stomach hurt but that its mostly due to not eating before hand. Take it with food. Good luck

only you and your doctor should be discussing it.
