Remedies:

1) If you have a bootleg = buy a genuine version of Windows.

2) If you have since reinstalled a genuine version = Call the support telephone number and ask for a new activation product id.

3) If you bought the pc as new with Windows installed = speak to your retailer and get them to provide you with a genuine copy of Windows. If they do not cooperate, report them to both the police and Microsoft.

Simple really.

Probably running a copied version of windos without a valid activation key. If you think the copy should be genuine complain to where you bought the PC. Otherwise get a genuine key from microsoft or risk downloading a crack and possibly also getting a virus along with it

Are you using a genuine copy of Windows?

2006-12-29 15:48:35 · answer #5 · answered by mjm 1 · 0 0

Most of the time it is because it really isn't genuine or someone has used your Key before you. Also, if you are trying tp update your computer from microsoft.com, you have to have a genuine check. A problem may be that the time is incorrect (don't know why...) so double click on your desktop clock, click internet time tab, then the Update Now button, and it will sinc your computer clock with the online one. It should then work well. Hope I helped.

Either BUY a legitimate copy or contact Microsoft customer service. Resistance is futile -- You will be assimilated (smile.)

Also, if you re-installed it from your recovery disk and it asks you the PCs serial number (not talking about the cd-key) the type in the serial number correctly (I ran into this problem a few months ago.) I just blew through the serial number question and I got the "not genuine" message. When I re-installed using the correct serial number then it went fine.

In case you know you are using a legally installed (genuine) system and your computer experienced troubles - which made you activate and signup repeatedly, then... just activate and don't register: that Microsoft's server will find your registration transparently, according with your CD serial!
This is Windows (XP) can be activated myriads of times for as long as there are no more than three signups per one serial; it should be activable myriads of times: they know how much Windows stinks after all...
----------
PS: I too got stuck with that problem just a couple of days ago, and this is how I solved it. Remember it works on legally installed copies (genuines). Cheers!

call micro soft & get them to check & they will send u a new key, then
Never Re-Activate After Installation
:If you have to reinstall Windows XP you normally will have to reactivate too. Well not anymore. Just copy wpa.dbl after you activated the first time. It is located in the WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now if you reinstall Windows XP just copy the file back and you're up and running again.
