The rite is mainly thought to be practiced by the Roman Catholic Church, but some Orthodox and Protestant denominations such as the Pentecostals and other charismatic groups practice it as well. These groups refer to the practice as "deliverance ministry" where gifted people drive out devils and heal while they touch the persons with their hands, called laying on of hands, and pray over them. The Official Exorcism in the Catholic Church can be done only by a special priest, duly authorized by the Bishop of the Dioceses.

Catholics have been casting out demons ever since Jesus and the Apostles did it.

Modern psychology says that most of the people who had demons cast out of them were probably miraculously cured from schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. But their cures were still miracles.

The Catholic Church believes that real demonic possessions are rare but possible, so they keep a few exorcists around just in case.

With love in Christ.

Because to my knowledge the Vatican is the only church that actually files extensive paperwork on it. Not to mention 33% of the world is Christian and only the creepy cult protestant churches still do exorcisms.

Because it is a process that the catholic church uses to exorcise demons. However, it is very difficult to prove that one is needed. They don't hand them out like candy, although if you watch enough movies and t.v. shows, you would come to believe that they do. It is highly publicized because it fascinates people. You can thank "The Exorcist" and all the movies that followed.

the majority of cases happen in the Catholic faith
