There is a product called a steptic stick. (I think that's the correct name but I could be wrong)

It looks like a white crayon and you will usually find it in the shaving section of a pharmacy. Men use it on small cuts caused by shaving. Sometimes its in the first aid section as well.

Anyway, if you put some on the spot when a cold sore is starting - right at the tingly stage, you won't even get a break out. If you don't catch it that early, you will still find the cold sore dries up much quicker.

The only down side is you will get a white powdery look at the spot, kinda like you ate a white donut and missed your mouth. But a few minutes of that is better then a week of a cold sore.

It only costs a couple of bucks, so I would recommend giving it a try and see how you like it.

By the way, I also heard of the earwax thing, but never tried it myself. :)

Abreva only works when you first starting to feel like you have a coldsore if it is already there on you lips then it is useless. Now all you can do is just using the regular one such as Carmax, and wait till it goes away.
