It is probably an ear infection, does your dog shake his head alot? My dog gets ear infections all the time. His vet gives him antibiotics and prednazone. Always helps.

Try to not get water in your dogs ears when bathing him/her and also don't let him/her stick his head out the car door when it is really cold, those are two things that can cause ear aches or infections.

If your vet doesn't want to diagnose the problem find a new vet. That is not a good sign of a vet that cares.

If your dog's ears hurt he may have an ear infiction. Go to another vet immediately, and let the vet examine your dog's ears. Before you go just look at them yourself and if you can see some dried wax coming out of the canel you need some ear wash and ear ointment that you will need to use to clear up the infectiion and do it to both ears. My dog had started to scratch and I couldn't understand why he was scratching and when I told my vet she inquired as to if he was scratching at his ears and I told her come to think of it yes it was and then I felt really foolish and that I had been a bad mommy. She assured me that I was doing a good job of taking car of him. If you do want to stick with your vet (which I can't imagine you would, he sounds like a quack) don't call JUST GO with your baby and insist on him examining his ears then tell the idiot that because he had originally said that 'NO HE DOES NOT NEED EAR DROPS' then he shouldn't mind giving them to you for free if he wants to keep your pet as a patient!
Honestly though go to your vet to GET YOUR PETS RECORDS and take him to another vet quickly. I have a cardinal rule that I follow, if it doesn't sound right ask for a second opinion and if need be get a third; if your gut feeling and the two other ones differ from that of your vet CHANGE VETS!

Call a different vet. Your dog may have an ear infection, which can be very painful and damage their hearing.

A good vet should check his ears for infection, and will probably give him antibiotics, ear drops, and an ear rinse to use at home.

The vet can not diagnose an ear problem over the phone they need to be able to see inside the ear to know how to treat the problem so take your dog to the vet.
Did anyone read that she said she CALLED the vet? No vet can diagnose an ear infection, fungus or whatever it may be over the phone.

I agree you definitely need to take your dog to a different vet.
If treated incorrectly it can lead to very sore inner ear infection which in turn requires big $ to treat.
We just took our St Bernard in after treating her for a month with (veterinarian recommended) over the counter ear relief drops purchased at the Pet store. Unknown to us, because we had not taken her in or consulted with an actual veterinarian, she had an inner ear infection which required sedation, drainage, and lots of antibiotics. The bill was $400+ So treat it early and you will probably just have an office visit charge and some antibotics to purchase. And it will spare your dog pain.
BTW, she had her 2 week follow up visit today, and the Vet gives her ears an A+!!!! :)

I would go to a different vet. There is obviously something wrong with your dogs ears and they need to be checked out.

Take your dog to a different vet, he probably has ear mites. dont think it is your fault, my friends dog who is very well looked after goes swimming in the sea a lot in the summer, and gets ear mites because of it. not sure why, neither is the vet!!!

It costs about 40dollars so take your dog to the vets. They will not give advice over the phone because they can;t see wants wrong just take your dog in and no why would you give your dog ear drops for a human. The dog told you his ear hurts;if he is scatching it maybe you have to just get the hair out of his ears that grows in the middle of the ear and sometimes they will scatch there ear all the time.It can be removed by dog groomer.that is one possable reason.

I would make an appointment with a new veterinarian. There are many reasons your dog's ears could hurt- one of which could be due to an ear infection. But find yourself a new veterinarian.
